APPLE

Love it or loathe it, everyone had an opinion when Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin named their daughter Apple in 2004.

“It sounded so sweet and it conjured such a lovely picture for me,” said Gwyn.

“You know, apples are so sweet and they're wholesome and it's biblical – and I just thought it sounded so lovely and ... clean! And I just thought, "Perfect!"

Their second child Moses, was reportedly named after a song that Chris wrote for Gwyneth before their wedding. Ah, bless.

ROMEO, BROOKLYN AND CRUZ

The Beckham boys’ names all sound relatively normal now, but at the time we thought Posh and Becks were a bit barmy.

Victoria recently quashed the rumours about the origin of Brooklyn’s name:

“He wasn't conceived in Brooklyn,” she said, “I just like the name.

"I got pregnant when I was actually on tour with the Spice Girls in America. I was in New York but I wasn't in Brooklyn.”

So how do they explain Romeo and Cruz then?

Spanish for ‘cross’, Cruz is actually an old-fashioned girl’s name, while Romeo has no explanation.

“It’s just a name we love,” said Becks.

MAX LIRON

Sassy singer Christina Aguilera and hubby Jordan Bratman went all traditional on us when they named their son Max Liron.

The little one’s middle name Liron is Hebrew for ‘our greatest song’ – very apt.

Good to see he has a normal first name.

BLUEBELL MADONNA

Geri Halliwell's baby naming was never going to be boring.

Explaining the name Bluebell, she said:

"What really clinched it for me was my mother telling me that the bluebell is increasingly rare – so it's a precious flower, which seems just right for my daughter.”

Madonna came from Geri’s two heroines – Madge and the Virgin Mary, obviously

HARLOW WINTER

1930s Hollywood actress Jean and model Shalom Harlow are said to have inspired Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s when naming their daughter.

“I wanted a hippie name and he wanted a more Biblical name,” explained Nicole.

While Joel said, “Harlow’s a cool name because it feels like a classic name.”

Whatever it means, we love it.

PRINCESS TIAAMII

Jordan and Peter Andre named their adorable daughter after his mum Thea and her mum Amy.

"Her name is Princess Tiaamii. Princess because she is our princess and Tiaamii was Pete's idea because it's taken from our mums' names,” justified Jordan.

"We love it because it's unique, plus it means something special to us."

But what will Tiaamii say when she’s 15? It won’t be pretty.

PEACHES HONEYBLOSSOM AND PIXIE

The Geldof girls didn’t do that well on the name front.

One is named after food and the other apparently after a cartoon character from Private Eye magazine.

"I am named, as you may have noticed, after a fruit," said Peaches once.

"I'm not Jane or Sarah or Samantha: I am Peaches. This doesn't make sense to me at all."

JERMAJESTY

This is the most ridiculous name we’ve ever heard.

Michael Jackson’s brother Jermaine is the dad responsible.

Mind you, his other kids are called Jaffar, Jainy, Jeremy Maldonado Jourdynn, Jermaine Jr and Autumn.

ELIJAH BOB PATRICIUS GUGGI Q

Bono and wife Ali Hewson have a lot to answer for with this mad moniker.

Elijah means ‘The Lord Is My God’ in Hebrew, the Q is a tribute to jazz legend Quincy and the Bob supposedly stands for Bob Dylan.

What the Guggi’s all about, we have no idea.

KINGSTON

With Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale for parents, we reckon Kingston – old English for ‘King’s settlement’ - is the coolest kid on the planet.

The little dude already has Shiloh Jolie-Pitt for a best mate.

“Kingston and Shiloh play together,” said Gwen.

“They were like two little blobs when they met. Maybe they’ll get married when they grow up? That’d be cute!”

BUD?

Rumour has it Matthew McConaughey wants to name his son after his favourite beer – Bud.

We hear he’s been inspired by his big brov, who called his son Miller.

But his girlfriend Camilla Alves, due to give birth this summer, is said to be none too happy with his choice.

“She hates the name and won't let Matthew push her into this,” said a source.
