Stainless steel and gold rolex help!!

this is why people may assume things ... as i have been living without parents help since i was 15 so i have had a long time and maybe grew up a bit too quick i dont know
this is why i explained i was planning on starting saving now for a matter of years :)

Girl, when I was your age, I didn't even have a thought about gold Rolex watches, Cartier Love Bracelets, Tiffany diamond rings. I was busy trying to work at my first 'real' job, buy a house with my parents help, and wondering how the heck I was going to put furniture in said house!

You have great taste, but these things are by no means easy to obtain. Nobody on this board can tell you if it's better to have a ring, a watch, how much you should spend, etc. Don't get caught up in what the ladies on this forum have, its NOT the norm.

What do your friends and coworkers have? How much do you have to spend? Have you already saved for your wedding?

Nobody is trying to hurt your feelings, just put your questions into perspective. Sure it's possible that someone would be considering all these purchases simultaneously, but even the ladies with lots of Hermes and Chanel bags listed on their signature don't often buy so many big ticket items together.

After reading all of the threads, I have to admit that I am very disturbed about all of this.

As others have said, the majority of diamond rings, Rolex & Cartier watches pictured on the forum are NOT the norm.

I started working in a government job at 19 & retired 2 years ago after 38 years. My salary was nice but the thought of expensive rings and watches never crossed my mind. Having a roof over my head, food, paying my bills and having a car were my prime concern. The most expensive piece of jewelry that I own was bought with money inherited from my aunt 3 years ago: diamond tennis bracelet. I don't expect to have anything more expensive.

You should go to jewelers to look at the pieces that have your interest. After seeing the actual cost & what saving would involve, that should put all in perspective.

Right, I agree. I've read the other threads, but have not posted. I didn't even really know about a lot of designer jewelry or bags until I graduated law school and started posting here! :shame:

Why not start with a less expensive watch and go from there? I think that people appreciate things that they have to wait for and save up for. I just got my first "nicer" watch this past year- and I am 29 shortly. It is a Movado w/ a diamond bezel and retails for $2800ish, but it was on a huge sale w/ the Ashford deals for around $700ish. Why not start at something like that and save for the Rolex and if you still want it years later, then go for it. You might find you don't even want to part with the money after you saved it too!

After coming to terms with the fact that a full gold rolex is probably always going to be out of my price range :p
I am now looking into a 2 tone rolex.
I have some questions that are really important to me
Mostly will the stainless steel band turn my arm green and the metal go orange?? This is very important to me as i hate it when this happens as i'm also allergic to this type of jewellery
Also is the gold on a 2 tone watch solid or plated?
Again i am new to this so my questions may seem silly but to me they are very important
Thanks to anyone who posts i need any advice i can get.... clearly :D
Also forgot to add anyone have any idea of their prices? no particular model any recommendations will be considered

I've been wearing my Rolex every single day for the past 15 years. I haven't had an allergic reaction so far and neither has the steel turned orange. I'm not a fan of 2-tone watches so I can't comment on 2-tone Rolexes. Happy shopping!

I don't think your arm will go green or metal go orange on a Rolex.

'While most high-end watch companies utilize 1.4435 (or 316L) Stainless Steel, Rolex uses 1.4439 (or 904L) Stainless Steel. While they both have the same grade of hardness, 904L has a slightly higher nickel discharge, and thus better resistance to corrosion. 904L is mainly used in industry applications handling chlorides, sulfer dioxide gas or other toxic materials. While this may sound like overkill for use with wristwatches, it's just another example of over engineering on the part of Rolex where only the best will do.'

Also Rolex watches are made of solid gold and are NOT gold plated.

I believe my mum has the 2 tone for more than 20 years. Its still running decently and no colour change that i have noticed. Rolex is a reputable brand so it shouldnt turn ur skin orange or green or blue..
and i have seen both hubby n mums 2 tone. i believe they are plated. Only full gold is solid. At least it feels(weighs) that way to me comparing hubby vs dad(full gold)

you really have to go to a jeweler and look at the watches and try them on. there is no way for us to give you prices on all the models, you didn't specify what you want exactly.

a rolex is something you need to buy in person.

personally, i don't like 2 tone watches at all, and only would want stainless. it doesn't turn your arm colors or turn orange. where did you get the idea that stainless steel turns orange? isn't that why they call it stainless?

i wouldn't worry about it turning at all. but you really need to go to stores and research it in person, especially since you don't know what style you want.
