I live in Texas, so I know about hot summers. My le pliage has weathered the 100+ degree heat just fine. I love it for that. Also for the fact that I can put a cold bottle of water in there and I don't have to worry about the sweat from the bottle ruining my bag.

i live in middle east and currently its 41 c here :D and its not even summer yet. this is my first time living in middle east. for the hot day I always wear my coach Kristin and so far it doesn't show anything bad at all. It's leather and light colored.

the MiddleEast, where I spent the whole summer a few years ago, is so hot and humid a country that my red Balenciaga First.... which I carried on my shoulder......transferred to one of my favourite blouse..
So....you're right...light colours only!

I love leather bags and I love bags with chains, but neither are ideal when you need a bag you can carry around all day under the sun. I was recently at a outdoor market/festival and brought a crossbody/shoulder bag with a chain (it's a new bag so I was excited to use it and forgot to consider practicality that day). The chain got so hot that I had to make sure to position it a certain way so it wouldn't burn my skin. (Yes, I should've thought that one through better.) The leather of this particular bag isn't exactly heavy, but after carrying it all day I couldn't help but think maybe a nylon option with non-metal hardware (or at least non-metal straps) would've been much better.

So I raise the question to you all - when you have to be really practical and carry something around all day under the sun, what do you choose? Would love to hear specific brands and models (of any price point, though I am particularly interested in designer options if you have one to recommend, but it's not a must.)

A wide nylon shoulder strap will save your shoulder. I usually just use one that detachable and come with my other bags. I am currently using my Burberry Macken bag as it is small and stop me from over pack it, to keep the weight light.

Hand-held leather or canvas tote, occasionally ones that can be carried on the shoulder. Sometimes small cross-bodies or shoulder bags. It depends on the occasion. It's when my Gucci coated canvas and my Trussardi canvas come into their own. I also have a cotton camo backpack for hikes and picnics.

A stamped leather or coated/natural canvas shopping tote is usually a good, durable Summer alliterative to the more delicate raffia or straw baskets.

I tend to switch between these three:
Longchamp le Pliage, so light and water resistant for summer storms
LL Bean Boat and Tote: total workhorse, mine is short handle but the long handle fits perfectly on my shoulder
MZ Wallace Metro Sling: very light material and it fits a good amountIMG_9074.jpegIMG_9075.jpegIMG_9076.jpeg

I live in Texas and it is humid and if I have to be outdoors in the heat I will wear my bagallini crossbody/belt bag. It is made of nylon. The sun will cause leather to discolor.

I would use a lightweight crossbody bag with a strap that would not be affected by sweat or sunscreen on bare shoulders (when wearing a tank or sleeveless top/dress). I like using my Aloha Collection mini duffle or tote or The North Face hip pack as a crossbody at theme parks, outdoor festivities (picnics, beach, walks), etc. If just lunching and shopping, I change out to a canvas strap on my LV Speedy 22/25 or Pochette, Hermes Evelynes or any bag I can crossbody. I try to skip on using any chain straps because they get hot in the heat. I still wear them but I have to make sure my top has enough fabric to be a buffer between metal & skin contact.
