DA is not white. Once you grasp that it’s really an ivory/pale cream, you can see that authentic DA is never going to be bright white. So abandon that as a standard by which to judge the canvas color.
Hello, I have the 2018 summer trunk neverfull in damier Azur and mine is the same exact way. Little dark dashes in the white( cream) squares. I was wondering why too and was upset about it. I will try to upload my photo as well. It is very cream, I thought they were lighter cream.
I have noticed the replicas tend to be very white ( I see a fair amount of replica NF's in my area). I am in no way saying your friend's is a replica, but the cream/ivory is more descriptive of the color of the the DA. I don't know anything about the men's line, as I rarely wander over to that side

Unbleached canvas is off white to start. Gets darker shades of white as it ages.
Most have random odd color threads scattered throughout that are picked up in the factory.
Look at an LLBean tote for a color reference as to what regular canvas looks like.
I'm so glad I came across this thread. I just bought a 2007 Saleya PM in DA. The bag is in great shape but the color of the canvas has really thrown me off. It's more of a creamy/somewhat darker cream than what I was expecting. The patina on the vachetta is still pretty light so I thought maybe that was what possibly threw the color off. Mine also seems to change colors in different lighting as well. It's been overcast here, but I'm wondering if it will look crisper in actual bright sunlight rather than florescent, led and incandescent lighting. It photos beautifully in overcast natural light though. Just trying to make my mind up of I'm going to keep it. If anyone has a DA piece from 2007 or a more recent 2020/2021 piece, I'd love to see it.
