Questions for guys: [Q1] When you guys have a men's bag [non-quota bags only] in mind, how quickly do you get it from your SA?

I shop at the Madison store in NYC, and I have been asking my SA for a Maxi Kelly bag (size of 42 cm; black and palladium) since it came out in September last year. My SA said I could get it around Thanksgiving, and then changed the words to "by the end of year," and it is now unpredictable. I don't understand why my SA doesn't keep the words. To clear up my mind, I plan not to shop with the SA until the bag is offered. I am still curious if this is usual for guys looking for men's bags.

I got a Lindy 26 (black/gold hardware) as a walk-in in Greenwich, CT without any history at all. I also got an offer for Kelly Depeches 38 (navy) [this is a briefcase] as a walk-in in CT but I declined it due to its color and it doesn't come with a strap. Given this, I thought non-quota bags can be easier if I have a good relationship with the SA (or even if I have no relationship at all).

[Q2] Also, for those who have Maxi Kelly, is it competitive to get it? (My SA used to say repeatedly that mens' bags are not competitive and they are usually availability-based.. How am I missing my chance if I visited the store almost every [other] week?)

I am now leaning towards to change an SA/store and/or take a break once I get the bag, but I hope to hear some of experiences from guys who shop at H regularly. Thank you!

My SA pushes men's bags to me pretty regularly.
Sometimes I'll ask for one and my SA will look around and find me one--or other times, my SA will just offer one to me.

My experience shopping at Madison has been nearly the same. I was also looking for a larger Kelly and was first told June then during my monthly visits, we told "next month" for 4 more months until it became "sometime next year". I was offered - and bought - a few non quota bags when I first started shopping at Madison (a SAD 21 and Hac A Doc PM) then it's been nothing for more than 8 months even though I stop in monthly and have spent quite a bit on non-leather items I wanted. Agree - I don't mind and can understand the wait but the constant shifting of the timeline made me start to feel I was being taken advantage of. I ultimately paid a premium to get my Maxi Kelly from a reseller when I was in Singapore (where I travel too frequently). It was brand new (with receipt) from a reseller I've used for years and the premium came to around 10% over US boutique price given the favorable currency rate and the fact that mens bag aren't generally in as much demand in Singapore as in other markets. I may switch boutiques/SA - luxury shopping is supposed to be fun and lately shopping at Madison has been anything but (IMHO).

I am glad to hear your premium was "only" 10%---which a steal these days!:yahoo:
Usually premiums are 50% - 100% of retail

@FrenchNewbie - I am also curious if men's bags are easily offered to women... Because I got a Lindy 26 without any history... Hmmm...

@travelguy2500 - So, I am not the only one getting played by lies and more lies. [The more I think about it, I feel that they have the bags, but my SA just "chose" not to offer it to me.] What's funny I found was that, when I asked for shoes, homeware items or clothes, my SA was "so urgent" to ask me to pay online so that I can have them for sure. (I could have waited for the next visit and decided whether to buy them or not... Instead of this, my SA has always urgently recommended to pay online immediately and deliver the items to me. Then, when it comes to bags, the SA is just messing me around with changing the words, etc.) If you don't mind, is it possible to know the contact information of the Singapore-based reseller?

To be honest, I still love Hermes products and was going to be a permanent, loyal customer to them. But I am tired of the "game" that the SA plays with me. I am also not comfortable with the lies and not keeping the words my SA promised. Before giving up, however, I want to find another SA and see if that next SA would be any different. (I just need to find the right SA who is honest with me.)

Thank you both to responding my message.

Yeah I hear you on that ---my SA does the same, seems to always be in a rush to send me the payment link. (versus my LV SA and Dior SA who are very calm, and even hit me up from time to time to check on me and shoot the sh!t with random convo--which I love!)

And I can totally feel your pain on the bolded part. I get how that feeling must be depressing and demoralizing.

oh yikes...interesting! How do you assure authenticity?
We cannot know and that's the problem.... :/

Ugh... I am sorry that you felt the same way.... :(

I have had no problems with authenticity but have only bought from well-established retailers with physical presence so I've been able to go to the store and see the items - have only purchased when I can also get a copy of the original receipt (ok if identifying info is blacked out). Can't remove all the risk but can diminish a lot by using well known resellers who have a lot to lose if they sell something fake and word gets out that they are selling fakes. I have also not bought any of the most popular birkin/kelly quota bad which are more prone to fakes than they less popular models (including most of the more mens oriented bags). Bottom line, if something doesn't feel right I walk. I have done that a few times too.

This is very helpful. Thank you. Yes, I do have the same concern about the fake products in the secondary market... And that's why I have been avoiding the reseller route... I know your Maxi Kelly fits so well with you... In PM, can you share some pros and cons of Maxi Kelly thus far? I know it is just a bag at the end and it may not be perfect....
