The chain on my teal Ella broke after I carried it for ~two months (as my everyday bag). My expectation is that a $700 bag is going to hold up longer than 60 days, and as I noted to the SA, that thing is too heavy for me to be swinging around, so it was unlikely that abuse caused the problem. She totally agreed and went to work finding me another one (they are in short supply) after Jax was less than helpful. She found one in PA and exchanged my damaged bag for the new one.
1. Obviously my bag could not be placed back on the shelf because it was missing the chain. The SA said that defective bags had to be sent back, no exceptions, which is kind of a shame, because someone could totally use that bag.
2. The bag I received from PA was obviously a return. It appeared to be in brand new condition, but the tag was hand-written, so clearly someone had snipped the orginal tag at some point. Under the circumstances I was fine with it, but that wouldn't have flown with me if it was my original purchase.
I don't feel bad at all about returning the bag, and if the chain breaks on this new one, I'll do it again. I think the girl in the original post sounds like a flake, and while it's annoying, I do think that the purchase of a "luxury" brand item comes with a "satisfaction guaranteed" assumption. I don't like what she did, and I don't like the thought of people abusing it, but I get it.
