Someone wants the nordstrom barcode before they buy?

Okay guys Ive never had a request like this before, someone wrote me on ebay asking for the nordstroms purchase sticker to verify with the store that i indeed purchased the bag from there. What would you do? Could they make a fake one and return a bag pretending it was mine? Am I overreacting here?

I don't know, but this is so weird to me. I wouldn't provide it. I provide copies of receipts but block out most info including the transaction number.

Sorry is there a little Nordstrom sticker w/ a tiny barcode attached to the tag somewhere; could you read me the number on that sticker? That's the number I actually need to verify w/ the store. I need to be 100% it's Nordstrom's because my wife gets free purse care/repair from them.

I guess I would provide it if he wants to make sure! What else can he really do with it, seems strange he just doesn't take your word for it, whatever!

I don't know... It's up to you. I wouldn't provide it. That number links that purchase to your account. I don't want any random person getting that much closer to my account. Call me paranoid.

They have 100% feedback (over 200) and there last 3 feeback in the last couple months were for bags all over 500$. What to do what to do!

Account information isn't given out, all they want to do is confirm where the bag was purchased.

I wouldn't provide that info. either. I've also received items from Ebay that had Nordstrom tags or Saks tags and the seller wrote on the tag that it was an Ebay purchase which I was absolutely fine with ....... Ebay is not a department store, and buyers should not be able to return items to dept. stores (if that is their intention) just because the tag says it came from one.

Some people make it a living to buy stuff under cost and take it back for more money to stores with generous return policies.

nordstroms just puts a their own little sticker on items so that they know it was purchased from nordstroms; they started doing this since a lot of people return things from other stores to nordstrom

Because that sticker with the barcode on it, is called a shank (through Nordstrom), which is just as good as a receipt. That's why they want it, no other reason. To return it to Nordstrom for a cash refund. Pretty sneaky, IMO.
