Doesn't seem odd to me. One doesn't have to be girly to want to protect something nice, and to care about something mom cares about. What a lovely gesture.

Very true!! I am hoping that the lesson of taking care if your things translates to the piles of stuff on the floor of her room. So far, she hasn't made that connection! Perhaps I need to find sleeper bags for her stuff.
