Hello. I received a Chanel tote today and I am so upset because it is huge! The auction lists measurements of 14.5 inches wide, 10 inches high, and 6 inches deep. When I measure it I get 16 inches wide, 12 inches high, and 5 inches deep. Purse lovers know that a couple of inches is significant! I would never have bought it if I had known it was that big, and I would never be able to carry it.
But will Ebay feel the same way? Will they trust my measurements over hers?

I have contacted the seller and asked for a refund. Ugh, what a pain it will be for me to have to ship this bag back to Hong Kong.
Her site says refunds for authenticity only, and I have to pay a restocking fee.

How ironic- I gave up shopping for Chanel because I could never find one big enough!

I would like to think that the seller would be willing to work with you. It isn't buyers remorse because you would like it and want to keep it if it were indeed the size stated in the listing- right?

All disputes opened against sellers are going to be held against them starting in Oct- retroactively, including those they win, so that may motivate your seller to work with you.

I would ask the seller to take the return and waive the restocking fee. I would also ask for a refund of at least the original shipping- you would get that back anyway if you won a SNAD.

i would fight for this one...the measurement is wrong...it's difference size. i know a lot of ppl who sell clothes/shoes ask the buyers to know their size. i think this goes w/ bags...you pay for smaller size and you deserve what you paid.
sorry...this is such a PITA.

HK is 12 hours ahead...the seller is probably sleeping now...wait till tonight. GL!!

I also think that a mistake on the size is significant in the world of bags. Ironically, I am always looking for larger bags, but I would definitely expect that a bag that I bid on would be the dimensions included in the description. If the dimensions are off, then the bag is not as described. Good luck - I think you should be successful should you have to file a SNAD because the seller won't work it out with you.

In the listing, did she say the measurements were exact or approximate? Because the measurements are fairly close and I don't know what shape the bag is, but that could account for the difference. If there's absolutely no way her measurements could be right, I'd ask for the restocking fee to be waived because it wasn't as described before filing a SNAD.

If the measurements in the listing were blatantly incorrect, then yes this is a simple SNAD. Now, had the seller not listed dimensions and you had purchased, the burden would be on you.

I would definitely try to cooperate with the seller; however, I would not pay a restocking fee as it is not your fault that the seller failed to accurately describe the bag.

I agree that a couple of inches can significant on a handbag. I don't know if ebay would agree but they might. I'm not particularly familiar with the Chanel line but any bags I have seen are quite structured so getting a reasonably accurate measurement (i.e. within 3/4 of an inch) shouldn't be that difficult.

I would give the seller time to respond. She may agree that her measurements were off and offer a refund waiving the restocking fee.

Good luck.

The listing gives measurements, it does not say approximate measurements. And the bag is not floppy, it is structured, so there really isn't room for error in my opinion. I measured the length at the base of the bag, then I stood the bag upright and measured from bottom to top.

If she says I have to pay a restocking fee then I will file with Ebay. Naturally I want to avoid this if I can. She also states in the auction that, with returns, buyers have to pay return shipping plus the original shipping, which was Free with this bag. Really, I should not be penalized for the error in the listing at all, right?

To the poster who wanted to know if the bag is red- no, it is black. But there is a red one just like it in her Ebay store, and it has the same measurements listed!

Yes you are right. I guess it could be debated how serious the error is. If you end up having to file a SNAD, you probably won't get the return shipping refunded.

Usually the buyer ends up having to pay the return shipping - I chalk it up to the cost of buying online. If the seller accepts that she made an error, you may want to negotiate splitting the return shipping cost with her.

(And in case you were wondering about the cryptic comments concerning the colour, there are a few threads on here about the saga of the Red Chanel. They have all been closed and it is probably best to leave them that way.)

It IS the curse of the red Chanel by proxy! :amazed:

Seriously, I do know what it is like to receive something from an Ebay seller that is disappointing to say the least.

Ebay/PP rulings have become so capricious these days- I hope it works out!

It's a SNAD, not a return, so she's not supposed to charge a restocking fee. If she agrees to take the bag back, but you think she'll deduct the fee, then open the SNAD dispute. I would also talk to PP about getting reimbursed for the return shipping. In theory, when buyers win SNAD claims PP refunds them the price of the item plus the original shipping, not the return shipping. But exceptions have been made...
