A preloved Louis Vuitton Alma in the Epi line, or a Speedy in the Epi line came up in my mind as I read this thread. Definitely a classic piece within your price range :)

I've added the Alma BB to my wishlist as well as the damier ebene speedy. Which size speedy would you recommend? I don't normally go for anything more than 32cm

Check out GiGi New york, they have a good range of classic styles like totes and structured satchels. The leather is really nice quality (often full-grain) and the prices are good.

I'll have a look.

I looked at the Honore 404 line by Longchamp which is lovely too.

Hello,

I'm currently saving up for my first excellent quality bag. I'm not into bags screaming what they are but I do want to invest in a well made bag. I'm after something that is smart possibly structured and it has to be a classic style as I don't it to date. I've never purchased a bag more than $300 before, so I hope I don't get buyers remorse. I'm reluctant to pay more than $850. I do like the Chanel WOC and classic flap bags but feel these are out of my budget.

Thank you in advance, provence_rose.

I would say save for a pre-loved Chanel flap. It will last you forever

I have a damier azur speedy in size 30 that I love for years. I've found it to be the perfect size, big enough to carry daily essentials but could still pass for a more dressed up event. I've had a monogram speedy b in size 25 before which I found the opening to be too small for my liking.

Epi speedies, on the contrary, are a tad bigger than a regular canvas speedy though. For instance, a epi speedy 25 is actually around 27cm whereas a epi speedy 30 is around 32cm. Hope this helps! :)

That's good to know, especially as I'd be buying online instead of in store. I will keep this advice in mind. Thank you.

I hadn't realised that Ferragamo had increased their prices. I live in the UK so will keep an eye out for their sale.

I like the look of the Longchamp cuir and also the customised option, but its more of a casual style for me.
On Ferragamo, I have had my eye on some loafers and a long wallet a couple years back, both are now with increased price. So ridiculous! But all premium brands are doing this now...

+1 for more contemporary designers, unless you'd had your eye on a particular style. If you're turned off to high-end brands and the unwanted attention, maybe try Etsy for some cheaper leather bags?

Surprisingly here in Australia, the price has been quite similar to the US for quite some time. But with our dropping dollar, i'm really dreading the inevitable price increase

On a Ferragamo note, a great structured business/work related bag is the Julette or Marlene (larger version). But it may be out of your price range.

Take a look at the new Anniversary bags by Coach. They are very simple but very well made. They are in your price point and have several sizes. They range from 395-695.

Here is a sample of a few of them....
