Smart everyday bag

Hello,

I'm currently saving up for my first excellent quality bag. I'm not into bags screaming what they are but I do want to invest in a well made bag. I'm after something that is smart possibly structured and it has to be a classic style as I don't it to date. I've never purchased a bag more than $300 before, so I hope I don't get buyers remorse. I'm reluctant to pay more than $850. I do like the Chanel WOC and classic flap bags but feel these are out of my budget.

Thank you in advance, provence_rose.

What styles/shapes interest you? Shoulder bags only? Top handles? Totes? Hobo? Bang for your buck, I'd suggest Ferragamo. Premier designer, incredibly well-made, classic styles, and doesn't carry the mark-up of other houses.

I like the idea of a shoulder or top handle bag. I also like bags that keep there shape but nothing too boxy. I'll have a look at Ferragamo.

I think Ferragamo has definitely upped their prices in recent years. You could very well snag one during the winter sale around December for 30% off and it will begin to be within $850.

Off the top of my head, there are a lot of other designer brands that have a summer/winter sale, you should definitely start looking into those when on a budget. Heck I grabbed my Italian bags that way, hehe. A good start would be to look at the online sales section at Neiman Marcus, Saks, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, etc. to get a sense of budgeting.

I do think Longchamp cuir would be a good start, but I think they are better known for non-structured bags.

Since you seem to be averse to spending more than $850, have you looked into second tier designers like Michael Kors, Dooney, Tory Burch, Kate Spade, et cetera? What is your style? Alexander Wang makes nice handbags, but they are on the edgy side.
I would also try Gucci. Ove always found their leather offerings to be priced well for a premiere design house.

I hadn't realised that Ferragamo had increased their prices. I live in the UK so will keep an eye out for their sale.

I like the look of the Longchamp cuir and also the customised option, but its more of a casual style for me.

My style is classic nothing that screams I'm a high end brand, I like understated luxury. I've had a look at the bags you mentioned but nothing jumps out to me. Alexander Wang is more edgy than the style I am. The Gucci bags are nice, I like the disco bag but it's on the small side for me.

Check out GiGi New york, they have a good range of classic styles like totes and structured satchels. The leather is really nice quality (often full-grain) and the prices are good.
