Size Vs Quality... How Do You Take Your Rocks?

How do you take your rocks?

  • I'm all about quality - the more perfect the better, I'm not out to prove anything!

  • Somewhere in the middle - I don't want something being mistaken for a pin head on my finger.

  • The bigger the better - gimmee size over perfection any day!

For me, there needs to be a balance. I don't expect to receive a flawless, ideally cut, perfectly colorless diamond engagement ring that's also a decent size. I'm willing to sacrafice a little quality for size.

Nobody is walking around with a loupe looking at my ring. And there have actually been market studies that take into account both the average observer and those who consider themselves "experts" -- virtually no difference between the eye of the casual "experts" and casual observer. I really don't think anybody is going to be MORE critical of my diamond than *I* myself will be.

I agree with this. Unfortunately for me, my SO will be choosing the diamond although I get to choose my setting. It will be a surprise and I am hoping for no bigger than a 1.5c center stone within the top 3 levels of each "C" category

My only requirements: ideal cut, eye-clean, eye-colourless. Anything else is just a mental thing.

This could mean a E VVS1 or an H SI1. I've seen both side by side and not been able to tell the difference--but that hinges on being excellently cut. ideal cut is a MUST. Colour and clarity are visually flexible, but you will notice a difference between cut quality levels.

My own is a G/VS2/2ct. asscher. I guess I'm not colour sensitive, because it's very starkly white to my eye. There's a bit of flouresence to it, so that might be why.
