I have had problems with many types of rings that have been resized, not just channel set and eternity band. Making them much smaller can result in the setting spreading out too much to hold the stones.

DH had my eternity band made as I wear a 4.5. It is lovely and actually was less than the stock sixes as it took fewer diamonds.

I wouldn't have anything other than a tiffany style diamond or something similar sized down more than one size.

I don't think the OP will run into the same problems with sizing since she's looking for a cocktail ring (so i'm assuming a large center stone with possibly a stone on each side). Can you clarify what style ring you're looking at? Maybe some pictures?

I would suggest having it sized, it's not at all expensive and like other members have said, the jewlery store that you buy from will usually size it free of charge or else its usually like less then $20... The only think that can be a proble is if the ring is orginally a MUCH larger size and it has a design to it or something that will be dramatically altered due to sizing...Sizing a size 6 down is not normally a problem though.

I am a size 4.25, probably normally 4 but I have a bigger knuckle on my ring finger. You can special order David Yurman rings in any size you need and they have amazing cocktail rings. I am also from CT!

I'm a 3.75 or a 4 sometimes and have never found a ring to fit, I always have to have it sized which is very inexpensive usually.
James Avery has smaller sizes but I don't think you'll find much in the way of cocktail rings!

I've bought a couple pinky rings from a local jeweler (I think they're like 2.75 or 3), and they special ordered them made in the smaller size for no additional charge. I'm sure you could find someone willing to do this for you!

I think that Emitations has great stuff. I have a few pieces from them and all are in great shape and really great quality...especially for the price! I like ordering there also cause they're sooo nice! Like I said I have the Mariah Butterfly ring from emitaitons and its gorgous and I wear it all the time.
