Shoulder bags vs. crossbodies: least pickpocket-y bags

I’d say email yourself pics of your passport. And of course have them on your phone too so you don’t carry it in the city.
But to be honest Europe is pretty safe as wel as Arab countries. Comparing to big American cities where you can get easily robbed. The safest I always feel is off course Dubai where I leave my designer bag, wallet and phone on a beach and walk away for like hours. Lol. And if you forgot them on a beach, police would knock on your door that day “madame, here’s your bag”. My dad left a bunch of cash at a store and they called us and brought it for us home. Love Dubai. After living there it’s hard to go back to let’s say Chicago lol
I totally agree, Graffs, Dubai is the safest place I have visited so far..

LC LP crossbody, the old style, was one of the most secure bags I know, as the zipper is against the body.
I also like a zippered hobo as it's pretty much impossible for anyone els to open one without you noticing.
A thin fanny pack is something I always pack when I'm traveling, for wearing under my hoodie or coat. My fave is Day Et Gweneth which is made of nylon and t can fit a lot of things.

I just got back from Paris and was the victim of a pickpocket on the Metro. I am savvy and aware of my surroundings and have been to Paris multiple times, but this was a new scam. I was wearing a Prada nylon crossbody bag with the label facing my body and the zipper closed and they still got my wallet. The latest scam is that someone gets on the train and sneezes on you (think of a nasty, phlegmy sneeze) and you jump because it is loud and disgusting. Their accomplice pushes you from behind while you are momentarily distracted and they unzip your bag. They took my Chanel wallet with my debit card, ID and $300 cash. By the time I got off the train at the next stop my bank was texting me to confirm over $1,000 in charges they had already made online. My point is...crossbody or not, if you are not 150% focussed on your bag at all times something could happen.

I tend to favour cross body bags when I travel- mainly because of the advantages already mentioned by previous posters (hands-free, closer to the body etc.). I'm heading to Europe for a month in September and plan to use my Givenchy Pandora mini and maybe bring my Gucci backpack (leather, no obvious logos).

I like wearing my cross body under my coat (obviously not an option in summer), makes it that much harder to get into without me noticing. Having said that, I travelled around Europe for 6 weeks when I was 22 and was never pickpocketed etc. but I had been informed by friends to always be vigilant and like KittyKat65 says, always keep some attention on your personal items.

Wow that's awful.
