Hi everyone, I would really appreciate your opinion on whether I should keep this Embroidered Toile de Jouy Palm Tree Lady Dior??? I am in two minds about keeping it. It is a beautiful and unique bag, however I have a couple of reservations: while I adore the Toile de Jouy print in general (like on the Dior Book Totes), I am not entirely sure of this particular Palm Tree version? Also, I am wondering what outfits it would go with and whether I will get a lot of (or enough) use out of it?? It's a really difficult decision, which is why I would love to hear your opinions on the piece. FYI this is my very first Lady Dior (I am a Chanel fanatic!), but have been wanting to get one for a while. Anyway, please, please do let me know your thoughts. Thanks so much in advance!!

I think it is stunning and navy & blue are very easy to match!

However since you decided to post about it on a public forum, it means it’s probably not love at first sight. So it might be worth waiting for something that you truly feel like you have zero reservations for!

its stunning and a very special piece, the palm tree is my personal favorite. Far more special and unique then your average handbag. Diors quality is amazing. If you let it go would you miss it? Normally I would say let it go if it isn't 100% but you may have a hard time tracking this one down again and ive made regrettable decisions that lead to me searching for a bag all over.

perhaps figure out why you aren’t sure about this one:
too much white negative space?
The birds are too figurative?
Not strong enough contrast
Too traditionally illustrative?

what’s your pattern re bag purchases? do you ever warm up to a bag about which you were initially hesitant? Are first impressions indicative of your ongoing feelings for an item? Do you ever let go of something and then kick yourself? Lol

Do you have return remorse?

re what this bag goes with: if you are a person who wears mainly neutral solids or doesn’t have a problem with pattern on pattern, it’s relative,y easy to style. Personally, I find it a bit easier to style patterned bags where the negative space is dark. And, I don’t worry about rain, minor staining or yellowing. I find darkdior fabric bags to be very durable. If you would like a Dior bag that is easier to coordinate, I would perhaps suggest a leather or oblique.

i mainly carry Hermes bags. prior to 2008, I primarily carrived chanel bags. Dior bags are like graphic novels to me. A lot of fun and make me smile. The attraction should be instant. JMO though!

I’ve never sold anything! I spend a long long long time before making a purchase and I only pick up items that would have to be pulled away from my cold dead hands.

This is really great food for thought, and its so nice to hear that the Palm Tree is your favorite - I do agree it is gorgeous, and a rare piece! Thank you very much indeed!

This is incredibly helpful and I hugely appreciate your thoughtful reply. This are excellent points for consideration. I do feel incredibly drawn to the bag (I made the purchase decision very quickly!), but just need to really determine what I like/may possibly end up not liking. I'm not usually this indecisive, but this is of course a unique looking bag. Thanks very much again

I forgot to say, trust your gut first reaction; don’t overthink; you love what you love

@Christofle, zero reservations and cold dead hands sound like marriage (joking of course)! Hugs

edit: this bag actually reminds me of the old finesse (?) scarves Hermes used to put out. also, I believe another TPF member posted recently that her husband bought her this bag for their anniversary. Her DH saw them as the two birds (cranes?) who mate for life. . .or at least that was my memory of her post. So, when I think of her description of the two birds, and the light gold HW, my impression is a romantic, refined, polished, not edgy, not gritty, fashion sensibility. (Of course anything can be made edgy or gritty, but it would require more effort lol)

Forgot to add, I just realized I walked into Dior for the first time intending to buy a palm Lady Dior. Instead I bought RTW including a palm skirt. Much later, I bought my first black around the world embroidery lady Dior which I wavered on (mainly bc Dior has so many choices) but I have ended up madly loving it. The deciding factor was I wanted black HW, and that was the only one. The secondary, since I’m not really practical, consideration, was that I’m not really careful with my things, so I thought I should start with a navy or black bag. Of course, everyone’s decision making process is different though. Here’s a pic of the palm skirt and the bag (after some time went by, I got it personalized  I can dress it up (the first pic is possibly for an event next month) or wear it with shorts and Birkenstock’s with a leopard print as a neutral (more my lifestyle). A patterned bag can go with nothing or everything, but that’s JMO.
