Should I get this bag?

Given that most of the shortcomings were due to functional/structural aspects, I would probably refrain from buying online if it’s not absolute love where you don’t care if it’s impractical, you have to have it.

This means the question is how much do you love it? Generally, if I’m waffling, it’s either because I’m pushing the boundaries of what I want to spend or because I don’t love it enough. If it’s the latter, I say no. There will always be another bag to buy.

Honestly, though, it’s an ever evolving process for me. There’s been trial and error and bags given away with the tags still on, but all of those were lessons learned and I wouldn’t change any of it because I love the collection I have now.

I think you summed it up pretty well - all my handbag mistakes have been functional/structural problems. Now, the more I look at that shearling bag the more I am certain that I won't use it enough to keep the cost per wear down. I am glad I have all you tPFs, so my temptation gets to slow down. I like the bag, but I don't love it. Honestly, the most used bag in my collection is my LV Neverfull because it is light weight and I am not afraid to use it in the rain. It rains a lot in my city (which a shearling bag seems even more impractical).

So true, it is trial and error process and this is even more so when shopping online. In the past, I had given bags away to my family. Selling bags that I don't use is the most difficult thing.

I feel your dilemma. I’ve had similar experiences with other things like shoes clothing etc and I’ve finally told myself that if something is on final sale online I just won’t entertain the temptation (ofcourse with a few exceptions!). So the return policy especially on high vat items is key when buying online.
Now onto the bag. There are a lot of shearling bags out there so if you’re hesitant I would say don’t buy. Ask yourself will you truly genuinely feel disappointed you missed this? If not, you have your answer! Also I tend to avoid an all light / white shearling just coz of maintenance. But that’s me!

Same here, anything that is final sale hesitates me. I am not the kind of person who usually goes for the on sale rack. I buy something because I like it, not because it is on sale. I believe I got my answer, lol - no, I don't think I'll miss the trend if I don't get the shearling bag. There are very few things I have FOMO .

It's funny you mention your LV NF is your most used bag. I love exploring new brands, but there have been few brands that have managed to sustain my attention the way that LV or Coach (as I'm in the US and it's everywhere here) have throughout the years. They consistently offer such a broad variety.

Anyway, I too find it easier to give bags away over selling them. The mark up for it to be resold is hard to swallow when I look at what I'm getting for what I spent.

Yes, so true! Every time I sold a bag, it was always at a loss. Most bags don’t hold its value. Which LV monogram piece are you looking at? I am glad I got all the LV classic bags that I wanted. The price increase is insane now, and also because there are no LV bags that really make my heart sing.

I googled the UGG x Telfar bag. It’s cute! Very winter appropriate !

I am glad I made the post, I’ll give that mirta shearling bag more thoughts ;).
I am looking at the LV Neverfull PM. The Neverfull is another bag that I previously said I would never buy. ;)

Buying any bag online has its element of risk as well as reward.

Given your history, I would suggest that you hold off buying any bag you haven’t actually seen IRL.
Mirta though has an excellent free returns policy! Highly recommend buying from them as it's always been smooth sailing with me when buying from them. That being said, the actual retailer (depending on where you're based, so shipping costs could factor into it) is having a BF sale. I picked up a fabric version from them as it was 160Euros.

Totally agree, it’s way easier to just give bags away than spending time on selling them. I had sold bags to second hand handbag stores, they paid soooo little! So I just set up a Poshmark account yesterday, lol. Hoping to have buyers there.

The only sale I see on Mirta is 20% off when purchase $400 or more (I am not based in Europe). What got me interested in Mirta was their duties and taxes are all inclusive in their total purchase price, and from the reviews their bags are well-made. Did you have to return anything to them?

Yes several times with Mirta. They were super easy with it. Sent me the documents within a couple of days and were accommodating with dates when I had a national holiday and DHL would’ve been closed. Returns were free.

the other sale isn’t on Mirta. Op was asking about viamailbag and they’re running a sale on their own website (and ship internationally but duties and shipping are at the expense of the customer, as well as return shipping).

Oh… I have never bought anything from Mirta. I saw the shearling Viamail bag on Mirta’s website, so I just assumed it’s the Mirta brand too. Paying duties is the biggest reason that I rarely shop online. Currency conversion, duties, taxes all add up .

Mirta are great, then! I had excellent experiences with them so if you decide you don't like the bag, returns are simple.

Oh also wanted to add, Mirta I don’t believe sell their own brand. They act as a storefront for handmade italian artisans targeting an international market. So a lot of the brands they host have their own websites too. If I know I 100% will not return a bag, then that’s where I typically will go to to buy as all the money then goes directly to the artisan and it often can end up being cheaper (depending on your location and what taxes/ duties you pay).

Mirta is great in that they take care of all that for you, and are super easy to work with. Their CS is impeccable and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about how they operate. I literally returned the same bag twice (and I finally kept the third) because I wasn’t happy with it for various different reasons.

One thing I will note is go for the free eco packaging even if it isn’t pretty as the proper white Mirta box (if they haven’t changed the design/print). I had an incident with the inner lid which was at least a couple months ago had black paint/ink completely covering it as part of the design (where the white bag I ordered was accidentally not placed in the dustbag and when rattling around in the box got stained). They fixed it for me and addressed the issue right away so was glad to see the introduction of the eco packaging box.

I see! I didn't know all these details. Thanks for all the info !
