I appreciate your honesty and found it refreshing. I'm also pleased to read the support given by the other posters here. It made me reassess my own "collecting" and realize that I have pretty much the same thought process, except I don't have many premier designer bags. I do, however, have many items of the higher end, higher priced, non-premier designers. I search around for bags and small goods to meet a certain use I want to fill, and find I just can't go with a designer that isn't "recognized", popular, and below a certain price point. And if it's not designer, just a brand, I just can't do it. And my sights continually reach higher, I admit, as I consider more premium designer items. I live in a big city, am in a decent financial place, yet I know most of my bags aren't "recognized" by a lot of the people that I deal with. However I feel that I know the designer, I know the quality, I know that I gave the bag a lot of thought, and I'm happy with my choices. I feel good carrying my bags, and I think that shows in how I carry myself. That's what matters to me. I put the same thoughts into my clothes and jewelry.

So I know how you feel, but that Brahmin is lovely and seems to fit your needs and style. You said that when you received it you loved it and thought it beautiful. Don't second guess yourself and keep looking for other purses that could be better. Carry it with style!

I got the Brahmin Anita Melbourne in the mail; it is disappointing--I wish it was there in the store so I could have made a decision right there, without the trouble of having to go return it now...and so continues the search for a fashionable throw around bag while at work, where it will get very dirty....

I purchased the Anita in Pewter and my DH said it's one of the nicest bags he's seen me buy (and I've been buying Bal, LV, and YSL lately). I found it to be a really pretty bag.

However, I did return it. Not because I didn't like it, but because:
  • I think I am out of my hobo phase
  • I am totally into my YSL Easy bags and can't imagine carrying anything else
  • I am saving for a trip and decided that the $285 I spent on the Anita could buy a fair number of cocktails and cabana rentals!
That said, Brahmin is company with a lot of history. The brand still makes their bags in the US which is pretty cool to me. The styles were pretty conservative a la the Dooney of old but they've revamped some looks to be more current. I recommend the brand as a mid range alternative.
And to the OP, your satchel is beautiful and it definitely has caught my eye. Off to the Brahmin website to give it a proper look!

yeah, some are still made in the USA, but about 60 percent of them are coming from China these days....according to my extreeeemly knowlegeable SA from Dillard's.

I have taken my new bag out several times in the last week and I am LOVING it! I get the same high carrying it as I do my Marc Jacobs bag. I didn't think I would but I totally do. Something about carrying it makes me feel very chic. So glad I got her!

update: i ended up returning the brahmin melbourne anita and instead buying the coach black large leather madison tote...it is perfect! i love the leather and feel proud wearing it! i am excited for it in the rain, and as a throw-around bag at work, where i can't wear high end designers.

I have posted before in support of Brahmin, I have many in my multi brand collection and get lots of compliments on them. And they are very well made, and on sale at great deals. Check out their website and really look at them, many styles and shapes, not just croc embossed at all. The hanging roses with zippers are great.

I love Brahmin. No matter what other baby I buy, I will always come back to Brahmin. I am wanting a bag from the Brahmin Pennfield Collection for Fall/Winter 2015. Can someone help me with color comparison - Sable versus Cashmere
