Wow your ring is gorgeous! I have seen a couple of pictures with a bowtie and it would definitely drive me crazy to have that. Its good to know you can find an oval that has no bow tie, that's what I'm looking for. Do you know if ideal cut or nearly ideal cut will completely get rid of the bow tie or does it just depend on the particular diamond? I can't wait to get I'm super excited. Ill be sure to post pics when I get it. :D

The people over at pricescope have been super helpful they really know their diamonds.

Thanks for the love! :smile1:

I agree you need to look at the ring in different angles to see the bowtie or not. That's what I did. It helps alot that you will be able to see your stone minus the setting.

I don't know if ovals even get the 'ideal cut' label-that may be for rounds only?? I would go on pricescope after you get the dimensions of the ring and I am sure the members there can tell you in more detail if the proportions of the cut are good.

Whatever you decide, please post on here-I can't wait to see it!!

Just wanted to post, Pricescope can be a great resource. I got a lot of help on there for buying a beautiful pair of earrings. People really give of their time and are very knowledgeable. However, I would be a little bit careful of their advice in some ways, and check everything out for yourself. There are certain favorite vendors, which is not so terrible, perhaps, because those vendors are very good, but athere is also a tendency to steer you towards certain diamonds that are absolutely perfect on paper, but then you pay for the perfection, and another diamond which might look just as good in person (and costs less), you get steered away from.
This is just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt. You should navigate around the board, see a lot of the back posts, I think you'll see what I mean.

Have fun with your hunt!! It will be a lot of fun to choose your rings. I think a stone that size will also be lovely on a plain band. It will be a nice combination with the pave wedding ring.

But if you have long fingers like you say, it will be nice to combine pave with pave. If you have shorter fingers it could be a bit too much.

Will your oval be set north/south or east/west?

In my own perspective, "Ideal Cut" or simply Very Good cut is a cut that is well proportioned with the best symmetry to ring out best brilliance of the stone irregardless of what shape. Stone Cutting Techniques are constantly evolving & improving with time not only with diamonds but also gemstones. Not all cuts are available for diamonds however gemstones possess even wider array of choices when it comes to cut, for Fancy Cuts, one of the unique cut is Oval Millenium. For Diamonds, there are also many kinds of Fancy Cuts like Hearts & Arrow, Rosella, Leo, Lazare, Sun Fire & many more. Diamond Table or Depth also plat a part.

"Bow-Tie" Effect is unique to all Oval Cut Stones not only in Diamond. Majority of Oval Cut Stones will have this undesirable quality. Nonetheless Oval Cut Stones are also beautiful in their own way.
