I guess I am the only one who is a fan of Harry Winston (baguettes on the side/high setting) but my pear is over 4 carats and I do not want to take away from the beauty of the stone. Guess I am a traditionalist.

Nope, not alone! That's what I really want, DH just doesn't care for it. His idea of pretty is what I call a "Super Bowl" ring, LOL! He likes thick gaudy bands.

Swanky, I am a whole lot older than you and i have seen styles go in and out and in the beginning they all look so new and great. but, you have 4 stacking bands plus a large stone that you wear all the time. you are young and sometimes too much bling is too much bling. you have a whole lot of years to change settings. Has your DH actually seen a stone like yours in that setting. Maybe seeing different styles with your bands will change his mind.

Yeah, he has seen it on me. . . we've been shopping for a setting for 2 years. I tried one on w/ a 3crt center on vacay, so very close to what mine would look like and he was just so unmoved. He loathes baguettes :-s
We just completely disagree on what's "pretty".
I love delicate, he loves OTT.
He's always been like this about everything - furniture, jewelry, etc. . . He even offers to upgrade my stone once in a while. . . I think he's crazy. Seriously! LOL!

I never really wear more than one band at a time BTW. . . maybe 2 once in a while.

These are wise words!

I like vintage-y style rings too!

i'm currently trying to finalize between:
philip press renaissance platinum,
saturn jewels (23rd st. jewelers can get them),
& singlestone

most likely i'll do some custom work too :) good luck!

Thanks :) I think maybe I find my stone the most common shape, a fairly common size and I want my ring to be "mine" know what I mean? What is interesting is when I asked what people thought of a fairly generic halo design most people liked it, but with this one even though I think I like it better no one else likes it at all :( Now I have to decide if I am just getting crazy from looking at too many options and just have no taste anymore...

Let me echo what Swanky said. There's no such thing as having "no taste". Your taste is your taste, not anyone else's. You need to buy what YOU love, not what the rest of us like. How sad would you feel, wearing an engagement ring that many people liked, but you didn't? That would be so upsetting.

I love so many things but I bought a "pretty" version of practical. I prefer plain stuff anyway but I want to still like it in a few years and not regret it later.

Has there been a single setting that you've repeatedly oohhh'd over?

Like you, I was not "in love" with anything I saw for a while. I wound up with a Scott Kay setting, I just loved the look of several of his designs. Check out his e-ring designs on his website http://scottkay.com/ If you like antique-y looks there are several with lovely etching and milgrain edges. Also add me to the list of those that love the look of Leon's work.
