I LOVE LOVE my stone and e-ring (after this 3rd and final metamorphosis) but to think back 3 years ago when I was first looking at rings. I wish I had done some things differently! I guess I'm older and a bit wiser!

I wish I:

  • Gone down in color. It's currently an excellent cut F, I would be happy with an excellent cut H/I. My friend's I looks as white as mine! Hardly to NO difference when the stone is set!
  • Gone up in size, currently an 1ct, wished it was at least 1.2ct. CRAZY CRAZY CRAZY thing was, hubby got a 40% raise a week after our engagement.... I wish he would've gone BIGGER! Haha. :graucho:
  • Hubby and I thought all 1ct were made equal, but my stone is a little bit bottom heavy (62.3%).
  • Paid attention to millimeter measurements of the stone! This one is a biggie! Just because it's 1ct doesn't mean it's all the same size!
  • Gone with Platinum to match my wedding ring! Plat feels heavier and overall just nicer! Wish I went with Plat from the start!

It's currently a HCA 2 - and dances in my eyes under various lights and I LOVE it. But I wished I paid more attention to these things I noted above!

What about you guys?! I know we all love our rings, but now that you're older and wiser, what would you have done differently? Or maybe nothing at all?

I wouldn't change a thing.
I'll always remember that experience and those emotions and the current ring is too tied to those to even imagine changing anything.
And as for the style--on my 25th anniversary, hubby said he'd buy me a new ring--not an upgrade, but an anniversary ring to have in addition to the original. We had a great deal more budget. It's funny but I ended up picking exactly the same style ring, except in platinum rather than yellow gold, because platinum is silver colored and it was our silver anniversary.
the new diamond is somewhat bigger and now I had all this knowledge so far as certs, cut, color, etc. and I went with everything you're supposed to do that I didn't know the first time so it's AGS cert, H & A, blahblahblahblah--but you know, the old one doesn't actually look less sparkly than the new, nor does it look off-color. The new one looks more symmetrical, but that isn't such a big deal as you might think.
I enjoy having both, they remind me of different times in my life and I like thinking how the new one says that hubby would marry me all over again, twenty-five years later. But I would not change a thing about the old ring (which is still on my left ring finger, next to the ring my hubby put on my finger in church, which matches his).

Hehe i wouldn't change a thing either...just got mine approxmately 3 mos ago and it makes my heart sings so loudly everytime i look at it! That being said, I would probably get a bigger ring (upgrade from current 1.13 to 2.5 ct) when I'm older.

I wouldn't change anything, though I did get engaged only 5 months ago! I picked out this ring and with our budget, I wanted the best that I could get. I looked at a few other stones, but I kept coming back to this one. It had so much fire in it. I figure later on down the line, we may upgrade to something else, but I'll still keep this one and turn it into a necklace or something maybe.

id only have taken the time to try on different styles ... i thought i wanted a simple solitare setting but it turns out a halo and diamond band are more me ... luckily i was able to get the diamond reset into the perfect (for me) setting ...

missD, seems like we had been going through the same experience... and yes must agree, older and wiser now !

my ring too went through 3 changes!

for me :

- i would have gone down color for a larger diamond
- would have chosen a different setting

but all has been fixed (phew)... with the excuse of a "wedding present" = a slight upgrade from 1.72 F VVS2, HCA 1.1 to a 2.32 G VS1, HCA 1.5, from a 3-stone ring with pear sides to a 3-stone ring with round sides to now finally set as a solitaire with a super thin pave band ! i still secretly wish for a halo setting but DH absolutely detests halo's, so must compromise ...

here are the photos of the transformation...

i dont think i would've changed anything. mine is a .75 cushion cut in white gold w a baguette on each side. i just truly love it. sure i wouldnt have minded a bigger stone but we were fresh from school when we got engaged. the style is so me though! i just knew i didnt want a solitaire.

I would not change my ring. I picked it out. I had the choice between an F- 1.02 (my ring) or a G 1.15. I liked the G, but I loved my ring. I must have been in some type of strange mental state, but I felt the 1.15 looked too big. LOL! I really can see color, so I am very happy that I got a colorless stone.

Well since my current ring is being reset, and isn't my real ring...Ill go through the steps here:

1) I wish I'd never set foot in that Tiffany's store. We wouldn't have had our first of many really bad jewelry experiences. We wouldn't have spent and wasted SO much money.

2) I wish I'd just kept the original setting he proposed with the 2nd time around (after the Tiffany travesty) and not bothered with anything else til I found a more competent store. I also wish I'd never encountered Whiteflash. That was just another year and a half of hell I didn't need.

3) I wish that this time around I would've just gotten the setting I am currently getting the first time and not tried to do this whole temporary thing. And that I had accepted that my knuckles are freak-sized and that I really do just need the bigger size with beads instead of not doing it. I know better.
