The feds had a second detention facility in Manhattan which they shut down temporarily a few years ago due to deteriorating conditions. That’s the facility where Epstein committed suicide. The facility had roach and rat infestations, pools of standing water and sewage leaks to name some of the more obvious issues. It has not yet reopened so the Brooklyn facility that Diddy is in is currently the only federal detention facility in NYC. The Brooklyn facility is extremely understaffed but that’s an issue with many prisons, not just that one. But it also has deteriorating infrastructure issues such as losing power for an entire week to name one of the more egregious issues. As you said, this is a facility to hold people awaiting trial, not intended as a long term facility but it could take several years before a person actually gets to trial and that is a terrible place to spend even a few weeks let alone several years locked up. Not everyone who goes to trial is guilty so I feel for those who fall in that category and are subjected to the pretty terrible conditions in that facility. Diddy being very high profile and able to afford the best lawyers will most likely get a speedy trial but I was on a jury for a federal criminal case where the defendant was arrested in 2018 but due to various unforeseen events, including the Covid lockdown, was not brought to trial until 2022 so it can be a long term facility for some inmates even though it was not intended to be such.
