I know this sounds really wrong but I'm going to say it anywhere!!

I'm 21, I'm going for a study trip in NY, Washington and Boston. I live quite near to Hermes stores in my trip (in three cities) and I want to help my mom SCORE HER BIRKIN. She has been waiting for 2 years plus and she was constantly told that the waitlist (In Malaysia) is 3 years. Well she's waited for 2 years and was recently told that the waitlist is NOW 5 years. I have this nasty feeling that because she's not an Hermes VVIP customer, that's why she HAS to wait that long.

I'm studying in Melbourne. The waitlist is based on colour, leather and hardware preference. It's easier to get a birkin where I am now but yet, it is yet to be confirmed. Sometimes, they just don't have the colour.

So dear TPFers, what are my chances of getting a birkin in the three cities? What is the pricing like? How about tax? What if I go into the store and tell them, I want just any colour but with gold hardware... Would it be easier that way?

Thanks! Every single post will contribute to my mother's dream. She's a really loving mom and I wish that one day, she will be able to own her Hermes, and not just carry her Chanels!

Have you tried other H stores in Australia beside Melbourne. Is there any preference.

Hermes Malaysia does not usually have a wide range of bags (nor quantities).

They usually only manage to sell birkins/kellys to their customers, and not ready to wear and other items (e.g. wallets, garden party bags, etc.). So it's hard for them to justify why they should receive more birkins/kellys in their store when they are not selling RTW, shoes, belts, etc. as well as other stores do (e.g. Singapore).

So it's harder for the Malaysia store to get hold of more bags as well as to increase their quota for kelly/birkin bags, thus the longer waiting time.

Even if you're a VVIP at H Malaysia, you'll still have to wait, KWIM?

I'd suggest you just keep your name on the list in Malaysia (one TPF-er got the call quite recently from the H pavilion store), try out stores in NY (higher chances to find birkins in NY compared to Boston). As for Melbourne, I can't say cause I haven't shopped there.

Ah, I get it. :) But still it doesn't make sense for the waitlist to expand over time. My mom waited for 2 years or so. And according to some people, there is no wait list at all! How much will it cost in US by the way? I'm looking for something with Gold hardware, calf leather. No colour preference.

if the store has declining sales, then the quota they received for b/k decreases and it is likely that the lead time becomes longer.

the wait list in taipei has also lengthened...

however, if your mom goes in and buy RTW amongst other things, then the wait list MAY shorten.

like it or not, H stores will reward buying customers with b/k. as a customer who buys non b/k H items, this will be my expectation that i get priority on b/k compared to walk ins who do not buy any H

in the US, it is possible to get b/k as walk in. but if u r very specific with color and leather, then it boils down to luck. the economy in US is quite poor at moment, and most b/k will get sent to China or the 45+ new stores that opened last year. so again, if u want to increase your luck, continuous patronage of H items (not including K/B) will be your best bet. for Japan where you SHOULD be able to get a b/k, again, if you wnat specific color/leather, it is also luck.

Have u thought about going thru a reputable reseller way, where in u can score a new b/k or a pre-loved one easily? There r many reputed resellers in the US who u can reach out to.

Nope. my mom is the sort of person who won't consider a pre-loved one. A new bag sounds reasonable though. :)

Nope. No specific colour. Just gold hardware and calf leather. That's all. :) I am going to try my luck. My mom deserves the bag, I tell you.
