Bonjour, my darling scarfies! I am at the airport waiting for my flight to NOLA for a quick turnaround trip. And it is great to have the eye candy of this thread to distract me from the airport-in-August hullaballoo.
MY GOTD is a recent, precious find: Grotte de Lascaux
View attachment 6211034
And my actual travel SOTD is Grand Theatre Nouveau CSGM, though I challenge you to find it on my fun summery maxi dress!

Beautiful Grottes, I love that reddish brown colours so much, and it seems to be everywhere this winter too 😍 I also am a big fan of your cw of GTN, and so pretty with that dress. Safe travels @LKBNOLA !
Not on theme, as I do not have any Grygkar designs yet! While I am patiently waiting for the new arrivals to drop online, I have been browsing the scarves available and just received scarf mail: Mystere Au 24! I have to say that it is really wonderful to have found this forum and to have made scarf friends! It is so fun to see a scarf online and then be able to search the forum for mods. So many of you have this fun scarf and I’ve really enjoyed reading about why you chose it and how you styled it. I am a book worm and love a good cozy mystery (especially the greatest of all time Agatha Christie) and l love to watch mystery shows and movies, so this one really spoke to me. I think it will be especially great for Fall and Winter, but I love that it has some lighter blue to make feel a bit more summery (I will just have to work on finding the right tie to showcase it. My SOTD in the box, mods soon!

I was in the Lisbon boutique today and they are expecting the new FW collection by the end of this month @LitGeek. I love your mystère, hope to see some mod shots soon!
A tender story and so important to know our birds. Your scarf is precious.
I chose the pink Academie.
Oh it must be beautiful on you! I bet your photos will scarfluence me in getting that cw too @Maedi 😊

“Visual commotion” is the perfect description of EK’s work and describes so completely the sense I have of it. Thank you for articulating this so clearly.
The dress is nearly as fabulous as the shawl! Is this linen? It looks marvellous for summer.
How perfect is Grotte and then paired with this fluff of citrus lemon - an inspiring combo. Grand T in these colors is dreamy. Safe travels.
@LKBNOLA, love this choice of travel scarf, Grand Theatre Nouveau CSGM, is perfect with your dress. Did your DH notice the mix of patterns? :coolio:
Both are just stunning 🤩
Beautiful Grottes, I love that reddish brown colours so much, and it seems to be everywhere this winter too 😍 I also am a big fan of your cw of GTN, and so pretty with that dress. Safe travels @LKBNOLA !
Safe travels, LKB, and thank you!Lit
Thank you @Lellabelle, @Maedi, @redheaddem, @HermesEchidna, @LitGeek and @Croisette7 for the lexical love, the travel wishes, the pattern mixing encouragement and the lovely comments. So nice! As for my pattern-mixing-averse DH, he was not traveling avec moi so...while the cat is away, the mice will play, right?
@AnnaE your knowledge of G scarves is phenomenal - thank you for sharing!

If I get a classic design it’s usually with a modern twist. Ex Libris Glam

This is a great outfit @Snausages! Classic and Edgy. Love it!
Off topic again, a summery theme for the first reasonably summer day in some time, still fresh enough to wear a scarf.

View attachment 6211107
I so wish this summery cw would have been available in the US @Agrume! Love the color combo...
I don’t own any Grykar scarves (yet?). My most classical scarf is Fleurs de Montagne by Cathy Latham
View attachment 6211120
My actual SOTD is Rendezvous..
View attachment 6211119
Your Fleurs de Montagne is so covetable to me @Jacq1! Be on your guard lest a white haired lady appear and quickly unwind it from your neck before vanishing without a trace! Sisters on the Rendez-vous 70!
Good evening!
Off topic, but as it is a cold and rainy day I went with cashmere for a dinner out with DH (after we cleaned the cabin roof gutter which had been taken over by nature) - and then the sun decided to appear 😊

Wish you a golden evening!
Love seeing the new scarf ring in action @HermesEchidna-- it is especially well suited to this gorgeous Pavements!
Getting way behind, but ‘twas Cheval Fusion today.

This is such a lovely color on you @Jereni!
Hi, scarf friends!

Today, we continue our journey in Grygkar-land. We will be looking at 1955 and 1956.

1955: 8 total were issued. I both have and managed to photograph 7 of those, so I am missing one… The completionist in me really needs that 8th scarf… oh, and it is a Petite Histoire de l'Automobile, which would help prove that maybe Grygkar didn’t have a vendetta against cars after all.

Plaisirs du Froid — no idea why they decided to print this wintery design in khaki, and why I bought it in khaki, since it’s not my color at all. But here we are.

Banquiers — a special edition for C.N.E.P, Comptoir National d'Escompte de Paris.

View attachment 6211325

Faïence Persane — Probably the rarest amongst the ones I am showing today. It is also in a smaller size.

View attachment 6211316

Races des Chevaux — this a fun one as its central part became Cheval Turc in 1969 (by Christian Vauzelles). I do wish they had reissued this one, as this one had been incredibly difficult to find. I am guessing neither this one nor Cheval Turc are getting re-issued at this point as they are questionably racially sensitive.

Arms of the Unites States — mine is a later version in 1976. This is a pretty common and well-known design.

View attachment 6211319

Le Jeu du Pair-Impair — one of the many board game-centered Hermes scarves. this is a later edition. Similar to one of the Chasse a Course I showed, this is an promotional item; a 80cm scarf in thinner silk and with a machined hem.

View attachment 6211321

Les Bles — mine is a cotton 70cm reissue. How cute are these bunnies?! Personally, I think they are much cuter than the creepy ones on the Mille et Un Lapins...

View attachment 6211324

1956: 9 total were issued.

Plaques a Sabler — one of my favorite esoteric designs; these are sanding plates to mark stalls of senior officers with colored sands.

View attachment 6211326

Bordeaux Porte Oceane — This is a well-known and well-loved designed, and rightly so.

View attachment 6211320

Paris Modistel/Modiste — issues as Modistel originally, then re-issued as Modiste.

View attachment 6211327

Coiffures Militaires — Geneviève Fontan's latest catalog has a source image with a detailed breakdown of what each one of these is, highly recommend taking a look.

View attachment 6211318

As always, we are seeing a wide variety of topics. Some of these, such as Banquiers, were custom orders, but are some are just very diverse themes.

We'll move onto 1957 and 1958 tomorrow!
My GOTD is Cochers des écuries impériales - grande livrée à la française, which I didn’t get to show when I talked about 1953.

Lovely outfit (and love your CdC) @AnnaE. Also regarding all your posts of this week, I hope you are putting them into a folder and perhaps you can ever create a Gygkar Reference Thread or Ode Thread? It would be such a shame to not consolidate all this research so well illustrated with your examples. I am sure I am not alone in this wish!
I’m traveling and the first thing that happened on our odyssey was that our flight got moved up, and I didn’t have time to consider any H scarves to bring. (After that we got stuck in NYC and it took nearly three days to get to Ohio, but I digress.) So here are a couple of photos from the archives. I was reading that Cheval Turc is based on a Grygkar design?

ETA: I see from @AnnaE ’s post that this is correct! As usual I am wearing the scarf folded to hide its questionable aspect.
Oh, me oh my! I get a case of travel-induced hives just reading this post @Teaforparrots! I hope things are sorted out and you can rustle up a scarf somewhere... Always love your Cheval Turc!
Off topic with Coup de Fouet, while sitting on the deck listening to the rain ❤️

This sound like the loveliest possible way to spend an afternoon @Cookiefiend...

Haha thank you LKBNOLA, good thing there is a ocean between us, i think i am safe for now :giggle:
Although not really, how nice would it be to have scarf friends near by and swap out our treasures?
I borrowed my very good friend two of my favorites scarves this week since she was going to a wedding, and it is so fun to share the scarf love …

Greetings, all. I have successfully navigated my medical day in NOLA and am now going to have tea with my dear neighbor and friend. I join the silken aviary of Les Oiseaux des Champs et de Bois with my GOTD today. Delighted to be sisters with @Croisette7, @Cookiefiend, @darkstar66 and @FizzyWater (I think has the all blue?) and twins with @xincinsin. As our @Teaforparrots would say: BIRDS BIRDS BIRDS...

Interesting thought. I could do an Ode to Grygkar thread if there is interest.

I have been saving the photos under a separate Grygkar album in my phone, so at least that's a start.

Alright, onto 1957 and 1958! Towards the end of his life, Hugo Grygkar did fewer designs: 7 in 1957 and 8 in 1958. It is possible he was already not doing well, or something else was driving this.

1957:

This is the year of Brides de Gala! The story goes that Hugo Grygkar was experimenting with one of the Hermès family members when he put together two bridles, 'One, belonging to the Mexican emperor Maximilian I, features figures of mermaids emerging from Horns of Plenty. The other is decorated with the elaborate arms of the Comtes de Ferronays.' The rest is history.

Another scarf from that year is Les Édifices de Paris -- this is a fun and fairly unknown design; really great for all of us Paris lovers out there.
IMG_2082.webp

We also have this Jeanne D'Arc -- Croiseur Ecole -- oh, you thought we were done with this cruiser? Nope.
IMG_1991 2.webp

Here is a charming and not often seen scarf -- Poste aux Lettres -- not sure that Sûreté Célérité always applies, but... -- I do wonder if this was some sort of partnership with the French postal service?

IMG_2080.webp

1958

Bois De Bologne is likely the most famous scarf from this year. I know lots and lots of you have one.

IMG_2138 2.webp

Then we have this Chasse au Renard. Cute fox; let's not ponder its sad end. I don't want to get into the ethics of fox hunting; I am confident Hermès would not do a scarf like this these days.
IMG_2089.webp

And my favorite weird pair: Provence and Provincia. They are both about Provence. The Provincia scarf says 'La Provence' at the bottom just in case you were confused.

Provincia is indeed Latin for Provence if my high school Latin is correct. In fact, the word provincial and the word Provence originate from the Latin 'provincia' -- Provence was Italy's first province outside of Italy.

So now you know some fun facts, but why are there two scarves? That I don't know. Just one of those weird Hermès things I guess.

IMG_2084.webp

IMG_1879.webp

What's interesting about some of Grygkar's later work is that many of the scarves are still quite rare, despite it being quite a bit later than the early days of say 1943. Les Édifices de Paris is genuinely hard to find, and many others are not that common, either. I think it does emphasize his value as an artist!

Tomorrow, we will wrap up with Grygkar's last years and on Saturday, we will host some reflections on his work.

Oh, I left one out from 1957 — Floréal! all I know is that Floréal was the eighth month of the French ********** calendar, from mid-April to mod-May. Despite my obsessive love for the opera, I can’t actually read sheet music, so I have no idea what the notes represent. Different ChatGPT models think it is La Paloma or Plaisir d’Amour. Any ideas?

… do I need this? Hrmmmmmmmm ….

Hello, dear Scarflandia,

I don’t know what the theme is this week and it will be a while till I catch up here…. In two weeks I’ll be on holidays and will visit here more often.
Back to more work now, grrrrr.

Scarf mail this week, DuJA. 🥰it was worth the wait, but I finally found it!

Hello dear scarfie friends,
Today is our national holiday 🇨🇭 but when Switzerland woke up this morning there was nothing much to celebrate. We went to one of the traditional "brunches at the farm" this morning. The appropriate scarf would have been Découpages evidently but sadly I don't own one. I saw a CSGM a while ago and was enraptured, but they are rare to find. One of my scarves has a red hem, so I wore it when we had returned, it's Le Carnaval de Venise, one of the scarves I own the longest. Lovely pictures, and I do especially love jacquard’s. Here are some archive shots of my decoupages, apparently last worn nearly 4 years ago - must remedy that!
