Hi! You are totally in the right here but I want to point out that the price for this shawl is fantastic. If you like the shawl, try to get a further discount. Since it already has pulls, you won’t feel like you have to totally baby it when you wear it…you can enjoy it! These pills are easily repairable with a needle, tweezer and goodneyes
I actually did offer that as an option to the seller when I first contacted him about the pulls. I requested either a full refund with a return or a partial credit to keep the scarf.

He could have replied that he could not offer an additional discount and encourage me to keep the scarf despite the pulls while pointing out that $350 was a good price.

Instead, he seemed offended by my presenting a partial credit as an option and wrote, “You already got a $270+ discount on an item we should have been asking over $700 for (in this condition). Another discount is not warranted. I guess you want it for free.”

Keep in mind that when I made the offer, there was no back and forth. It was my first offer and he accepted it right away. I have not heard back from him and do not think that I will. This scarf now has bad energy associated with it and I am loath to keep it even if it is a good price. I am sure something else will come along that I will like just as much if not more. Thank you for reading and giving your thoughts. Based on your response and a few others, I am now aware that $350 is a good price for a similar shawl.

I think you are left with a very bad taste in your mouth from the start of this transaction.
I'm sure you will find the scarf again from a more pleasing seller who discloses any & all flaws
& you certainly this go around will know to ask.
The snarky comment is just inappropriate.
I think Ebay will be on your side in this matter. The pictures of the pulls speak for themselves.
Good luck..

Thank you. I was really shocked at his response since the seller had 1000+ positive feedback. Hopefully you are right and eBay sides with me.

I agree, the price is commensurate with the condition IMO.

No reason why the guy shouldn't behave like a grown-up though.

I agree with you 100%! This seller reacted VERY badly. I often rehome shawls on eBay and am meticulous about the condition as it is very important to the design, value and personal aesthetic of the buyer. If there were an issue that I missed, I would absolutely take a return or discount. Acting offended and angry is off putting and simply RUDE!!!

I agree, bad vibe here and you won’t enjoy. I think that it is clearly not as described and you should win your case!

I hope you can find a shawl that you will love and cherish, they are wonderful! :)

I am now aware that the price was a good one. In the future I will keep that in mind. At the time, I did not know and did not feel it was unreasonable to present a partial refund as a possible option since the scarf was not as described. There was no reason for him to be rude. He could have simply declined offering a discount and accept a return instead.

Thank you. Yes I am sure I will find another one. When I was younger I might have pined over the “thing that got away”. But experience has taught me that I will eventually get over it. Knowing this, I find it much easier to let go of things.

Yikes. This is awful!

As a scarf newbie if you choose to again buy online I’d definitely ask about pulls or snags. Definitely not saying this is your fault but just to avoid the hassle of dealing with rude and dishonest people! Ugh but they are dishonest they could still lie about the condition! I’m really hoping this get resolved in your favor!

Update: I received a refund! ‍ It was strange since the seller usually waits until they receive the item back before a refund is issued.

But he contacted me shortly after, explaining that he was inexperienced processing returns and that he had done things in the wrong order. He wanted to send me a shipping label to return the scarf. He is lucky that I intend to do the right thing and return the scarf. Another person might just take advantage of the situation and keep the scarf.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read my thread, tell me your thoughts, and give your advice! I have learned quite a bit!

I just came across your thread. Glad to hear that you were able to get a refund. Well - you have to understand that when buying pre-owned, you have to lower your expectations:) You most always get what you pay for. I think the price you got for the shawl ($350) was on a low spectrum for a pre-owned H shawl (even for the design that is common, orange (harder CW to sell, not a grail one), so I doubt you would find a perfect H shawl for that kind of $$ - let's be realistic. I don't think those pulls were a big deal - the beauty of cashmere blend is that those pulls are easily fixable and I personally wouldn't even consider them a defect. Stains, holes, ironed flat hems (hate those), moth damage, anything that was washed in water and pull of fuzz and piling - those are much bigger issues to stay away from (return those right away as those are permanent damage); a few pulls isn't really a huge deal.

Having said that, it is challenging to buy from sellers who are not experienced in selling H scarves and shawl. The guy probably won't even noticed those (or paid no attention) but of course his defense mechanism worked when you reached out to him and he tried to put the blame on you. It is more common than you think it is (happens all the time when I buy pre-owned:) If you consider buying pre-owned, learned the ins-and-outs of the system you are buying from (if you are able to return, the process, etc), research the market (aka prices - as different designs are worth different $$ based on their desirability and colorway), zoom on pictures (as you can notice things on pics that the seller isn't disclosing), etc. and remember that different people have different interpretations of condition - what looks "new" to one, might look "very used" to you and so forth:) best of luck to you.

Agree! He should have been polite, and he could have listed the scarf as having multiple pulls which explained the low price. I do agree with @hopiko that the price is great, but of course the negative energy and aggravation needs to be taken into account too.

So glad this worked out.

I agree with everyone who stated that as the scarf was described as having 'no pulls'.
That is a very specific claim and much easier to argue with than a more general excellent condition statement.
That is why you have every right to claim that the item was misdescribed.
In no way siding with the seller, it was unwise to have suggested a partial refund;
that did send the wrong signal and the seller jumped upon the idea that it was your ploy to get a reduction.
It is good to read that you have been given a full refund in advance of returning the item.
