SA’s and Resell Purchases

I think one has to put vintage/discontinued into another category. The H craftsperson at my store was obsessed with one of my inherited pieces, she insisted on doing research on it, all the SAs were interested. I think the OP is talking about current styles and leathers.

I’m wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the SA perspective of resale purchases. It’s a long story but I’m sitting on store credit for a bag that was not repairable. I’ve been trying to replace it with another bag, but my store/SA (which is not in my home town) has said they haven’t had any bags when I’ve been in town. No complaints against the SA or the store. They’ve been very nice. But I ran across a QB on a reseller’s site that I loved so I purchased it. My question - do SA’s tend to frown upon it and look at it as “disloyalty” by purchasing from a reseller? Or does it lend to the argument that one loves the brand? What are your thoughts?

You are an autonomous being. You can buy whatever you like with your own money. H let you down already (from the sounds of things). I would be more worried my credit note is being worth less and less with every price rise rather than upsetting the person who sold me a defective bag. :sunnies:

I totally understand you don't want to mess-up your client/SA relationship, but just coz you may buy a bag from a reseller, doesn't mean you need to wear it in to H to see your SA. Carry a Gucci/Chanel/Cos/etc (I do - why not?). When Your SA finds you a suitable replacement for the bag that was irreparable, you'll be able to greet her wearing an H bag again. Meanwhile you can buy yourself whatever you like.

Our Madison Ave SA stressed that the various H bags we've acquired (a couple of them attached) and proudly wore into her boutique through the years - we acquired outside the US Hermes system (e.g., in France/Europe or pre-loved anywhere) and have no bearing on whether she would consider offering us a quota bag. This didn't surprise us but we were taken back that she felt she needed to point this out. We've bought probably $10k worth of H accessories from her in the US system - and she made it clear that we 'have more history to build' if we want to be considered for a QB. No thanks. We buy only what we want from H. We've spent substantial $$$ (for us) in the secondary market because that has been the only way to get the exact H bags we love.
