I’m wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the SA perspective of resale purchases. It’s a long story but I’m sitting on store credit for a bag that was not repairable. I’ve been trying to replace it with another bag, but my store/SA (which is not in my home town) has said they haven’t had any bags when I’ve been in town. No complaints against the SA or the store. They’ve been very nice. But I ran across a QB on a reseller’s site that I loved so I purchased it. My question - do SA’s tend to frown upon it and look at it as “disloyalty” by purchasing from a reseller? Or does it lend to the argument that one loves the brand? What are your thoughts?

I never bought a bag from a current production year from a reseller, only vintage - ie mostly 90s /early 2000s or even earlier bags in rested leathers or styles. When I brought a few of them in for Spa or simply when shopping, there was never a bad feeling, rather a real interest in the bag.

But maybe this is not what you mean by buying from resellers?

what is important is how you feel about it
Regardless of source
if you have purchased something elsewhere that your SA or store cannot source for you, they have not lost out on a sale, so why should they have any legitimate grounds for disapproval

my caveat would be if it were a recent current production bag that had come from the 'flipping' reseller market
they would have every right to disapprove of you supporting that
because that would be yet another bag that could have gone to a legitimate waiting customer - such as yourself!

I wouldn't bother too much about what the SA thinks or feels... buy whatever you want. Most SAs are just curious, or they're trying to suss out whether you're remaining loyal to them. I've made it clear to the multiple stores I shop at that I spread my purchases out because the H experience is such that you cannot buy everything you want from one store (because of the inventory, or lack thereof) and therefore I will shop with whichever store that has what I want. So my SAs just assume that whatever new QB or bag or whatever I have has come from another of the stores I've shopped at, and I don't bother correcting them.

The won't care. But I'm interested in the bag replacement issue. Are you waiting for one exact spec or more open to "any Kelly 25" for example? Because if its the latter, its BS that they don't have anything when you are there, especially if you give them 1-2 weeks advance notice of your trip, so I worry that they are playing you and don't intend to make you another bag offer until you use the store credit on other items.

My SA encourages me to buy from a reseller if I insist on a certain combo even as simple as black ghw 😂 they wouldn’t care cause they dont make a commission on bags anyways

SA's understand that clients go into the world of resale for bags, etc.
At the end of the day, if you can find what you are looking for on a reseller site no reason
not to make the purchase. Just wouldn't make it a point of having a conversation with your SA
about it.JMO

I would just add - probably the ONLY conversation I would ever have with my SA(s) about a reseller purchase, would be if I scored a vintage bag. I know my older SAs who have been with H a long time dig these sorta things, and they're always so intrigued when an old bag or old specs comes up.

Sorry if this has been discussed already - I imagine it has, somewhere at some point, but I couldn't find a thread!

I recently bought a K28 on the resale market. I don't shop at Hermes super frequently, but I make occasional purchases when there's something I want (maybe 2-3 times per year, under 5k in spending) with the intent/hope of building consistency with an SA so that I can hopefully be considered for a QB down the line if/when I'm shopping more regularly and spending more. I've bought a Picotin through him and a couple of other items.

I'll be visiting the boutique soon and am hoping to pick up a couple of silk items. My K28 is probably the only bag I'll be brining with me on the trip. Is it okay to bring my K28 into the store? If my SA asks where I got it, what should I say?

I popped into the store briefly a couple of weeks back and unintentionally chatted with the store manager (didn't end up buying anything, and she never got my name or info or anything), and she directly asked me where I got my bag. I think she was trying to assess whether I was already working with someone or not, but I felt weird saying, "from a reseller."

Any suggestions? Am I overthinking it? Maybe my SA wouldn't care at all since it's not like I've been pushing for a QB, but I just feel a little weird about it. Thanks!

My SA knows I try to keep across the vintage market and I buy from resellers, but only vintage bags, discontinued bags, rested colours and so forth. She knows I do not shop resellers for current season bags and loves to see vintage bags when I go in to visit.
I have a similar relationship with my SA who loves seeing my “finds”. Ironically enough as I sit here writing this I realize only two Hermes vintage bags (one from the 70s and one from the 90s) evacuated with me. I imagine that shows my true preference and what I gravitated to at a moments notice…

I’m sorry to hear you have evacuated and hope you and your family and property are safe.
