Hi again, lol it's like our little chat here, no one else is chiming in lol.

So I've decided (as if I'm buying it tomorrow and not in March 2013 lol) that I'm going to go for the bvlgari bvlgari watch with black face. It's a quartz watch. I'm also going to try to hunt down the bvlgari onyx disc bracelet to wear next to it. Those are so hard to find. As for the two tone watch, I have no idea which I'll go for. I like the H-hour but don't love the idea of a leather band bec. I'd be nervous every time I got near water and I wash my hands a lot and my kids hands. I looked at the H clipper style but it's hard to find in lovely condition. I entertain getting the two tone Ebel but it has that early 90's look to it. I really have no idea what I'll get for a two tone or if I even like any other two tone than the Cartier santos galbee.

I talked to my dad today about automatic watches bec. he wears a self winding Rado. He says he keeps it in the winder which he got for $30 and it's held up great. He said that he services his watch every so often for $200, he said like every 4-5 yrs. it needs it. He was trying to encourage me to still go for the automatic thinking that's what I prefer. The truth is I really love that SS black face bvlgari so I'm not heartbroken but they are hard to find pre-owned, only the vintage ones seem to turn up on the second hand market. I feel relieved to learn this now about the automatic watches running slowly, that is something that would def. bother me, plus the aspect of needing to service it and make sure it's lubricated. It seems like a headache. My quartz movado has held up so well, it would burn me to get a more expensive watch than the one I'm wearing and have it be so temperamental. My watch really runs great, I've only had to change the battery a handful of times in the 6 yrs. I'm wearing it and never had any issues with it, and I've dropped it on the floor and banged it into my washing machine unloading the wash. I am bored stiff of it though, it just does not excite me at all lol.

Well keep me posted with what you decide. It sounds like you're still on track for the galbee then? Are you going for the SS version or the two tone? What do you think of design house watches like Gucci? I was thinking of an all gold tone gucci for the times I need a watch to go with my yellow gold jewelry. Part of me likes the look, it's a little 80's, in fact the model I like is vintage 90's. And part of me wants to slap some sense into me and says you know you'll regret it and be like what were you thinking lol. I read on this board that someone said that Baume & Mercier is a pseudo luxury brand and I also read an article online about that topic. I know B&M borrows a lot from Cartier's styling, that's the only thing that bugs me about it. The Hampton, which is the style I like, borrows from the tank look. Anyway, I just can't make up my mind on what two tone style I like or if I like it at all, part of me really doesn't like the two metals together. I thought it worked on the cartier santos and don't love it really on any other design. *sigh*

I'm a complete dummy! I just was doing different searches on this forum looking up other brands (concord, baume & mercier) and I came across a thread that said not to buy a Cartier bec. of the expensive tune ups and it was a quartz watch. So I just learned that Cartier does make quartz watches! I'm back on track with my plan to get the tank francaise in quartz movement small SS ladies model. Since I'm buying it used anyways, Cartier wouldn't touch it and I really think any decent watchmaker can give it a tune up if needed and my jeweler can change the battery when needed, I don't think quartz watches are so complicated. I'm so relieved I can stick to my original plan for the SS. I'm considering a different Cartier for the two tone that is also quartz.

Before I read that thread I was thinking about getting one of two other all SS, a concord diamond la scala or a diamond Hampton Baume & Mercier. But I'd rather go for the tank francaise cartier, it just looks so crisp and clean. I'm still going to mull over it some more bec. I just want to be sure I get the best running watch as well.

I just looked up on e-bay and they make the santos in a quartz movement also. Wow that was a lot of drama for nothing:shame::girlwhack: My dh is willing to move up the purchase date to Dec. which could prove helpful if I find something sooner. I guess I'll start looking then. Sorry for getting you worried if you were having second thoughts. I suppose all is back on track and you'll be going for the quartz model then or do you prefer the automatic bec. it requires no battery changes?

lol hello again. Yes I knew they had the quartz 1 as that was the model I was planning to purchase. I think some of Cartier watches are not made with quartZ but the santos is. Sorry I may not have made it very clear, but that was the model I was referring to that the few people with cartier watches I knew had, quartz. It's cheaper yet seems More reliable. I think though that some people don't like buying quartz coz if they are going to spend so much money on 1 then they don't see the point on a battery operated. But I personally don't get bothered by that. I plan to get the all Ss version I think. And I'm starting to think that that could work for me. Reason being is that on most days I can wear my essential pieces (eg stud diamond earrings with my diamond rings) and on days I want yg or if I'm going a little dressier for an occasion than I can take the watch of and add my yg bangle & hopefully the Cartier love bangle that is also on my to buy list lol, and wear these with no watch. I'm also considering to purchase the hermes enamel bangle and I can play around with that when I feel the need of a leather watch (although I know it's not leather lol) I think it might still give me the elusion that I wanted originally with using the tank solo with leather straps. This way I don't have to get the 2 tone version as I'm worried if down the track I would get any regrets (which I think I mentioned earlier on how I usually not a fan of 2 tone or mixing yg & wg/silver together). It makes it a bit harder for me coz I'm planning to purchase mine directly from cartier. We don't have many reliable places here in Australia that I could look at for pre-owned options :( (or if there is I'm not aware of them). Have you thought about which your leaning more to get?

Hi there! I'm def. only go for a quartz model. And now I know to look out for that in the auctions that I'm bookmarking. I'm probably going to stick to my original plan of two tone santos galbee in the smallest ladies model and for the all SS look, the tank francaise also in the smallest model. That was a little bit of a roller coaster there trying to figure out which watch to get all over again! I based my decision on what will stay current looking the longest and won't have that trendy/dated look eventually. Keep us all posted when you finally make the purchase!:balloon:

ps I love the hermes enamel bangle! If you go on their website you can see they come in such a variety of colors and widths, they probably look good stacked in twos as well. If I got the H watch or any other H watch style, like a clipper I know I'd be wanting a clic clac to wear next to it!

i have a small santos from 2000... ss, automatic movement, with the limited sunburst face. i've worn it practically every day since then, and i love it as much today as i did when i first bought it. it is a bit heavy - ss rolex is way lighter. cartier has not put automatic movement in the small watches for awhile now... only quartz.

good luck with your purchase - post pics!

Yay it's nice to hear from someone who has this watch. Would love if you could post a picture of yours to share! It's always fun to see :)
Do you find you can dress up the watch and dress it down too?

Thank you for sharing your experience! It's just been me and Dannii chatting it up here, not that I mind her lovely company.

That's great news to hear that they use quartz movement these days in the small watches, since I'm planning on buying two small Cartier watches. I was planning on buying them pre-owned so now I will know that the quartz ones I'm looking at are at least not vintage. They haven't changed the look of the watch so it was hard for me to tell if it was an older one or not. I was hoping to get a model from 2000 and up. There is a mix of automatic and quartz on the second hand market. I honestly assumed they were all automatic and then started noticing that there is a mix of what is out there. Thanks again for sharing your experience. Can you post a pic please of your lovely watch on you? I looked in the reference forum and not that many people have this watch. I notice most people opt for the mid or large size Cartier watches also, so that's often in the modeling pics. I have a small wrist that is a touch under 6 inches, but I like wearing my watches loose.

Dannii, have you considered purchasing it from e-bay? I've seen the all SS on e-bay. If your price point is for the brand new one, you could do like me and get two different used watches or a piece of jewelry and a watch. I never buy jewelry or watches retail. In terms of my bags though, I have bought a mix of used and new. The last one I got was new, my azur neverfull, bec. there are never like new ones for significantly less.

i wear it everywhere - literally! it's been everywhere with me, on every trip, every gala, every volunteer session at my son's preschool. i'm a "need to know the time" gal, so i wear my watch always. it's not a delicate looking watch, so some may balk at the idea of wearing it to a formal event, but i like the distinctive appearance of the santos. totally an iconic watch, imo.

i'll try and post pics soon! good luck!

I'm entering the conversation quite late, but was interested to read your wonderful conversation, thoughts, insights in to your decisions. We women surely think through everything, don't we? I bought a Santos de Galbee recently and I'm in love! I have lots of chunky Michael Kors watches & several Michele's (with & without diamonds) but I HAD to have the Cartier.

I did get the 2-tone, but to update the look I got the men's XL size. I have a winding box for it & I'm ecstatic! Eventually I'll have to get the Love Bracelet in WG to wear with it, but for now I have lots of H bracelets to keep it company

Oh yeah...forgot to tell you the final reason for this decision: Santos is my maiden name & my son's middle name (at 19 he's already become a watch collector like me lol). I figure I can pass this watch down to him. Now that's its a year later what did you get?
