No I don't have any other cartier watches yet
I've wanted this watch for so many years but each time I came close to buying it, I would put the money i saved towards other things like designer bags or shoes lol. I also do love the Ss demoiselle watch. That was the other 1 I was contemplating with. (we must have similar taste in watches). I do like the santos in the 2 tone, it's probably the only watch I have ever liked in 2 tone as I'm not usually a fan of mixing yellow tones and white tones. Another watch I loved was the yg tank americaine (in the leather strap as the yg braclet for that watch will be out of my price rang for this purchase but i decided not on that as I am not sure I love leather watches as much). I think overall your friend might be right that it looks a little dated especially if shes comparing the modern look of a tag or rolex but I love classical (or older style looking pieces with watches & jewelry) and I feel this might be a more classic look especially coz of the iconic screws in the watch.
benchwarmer said:hiya! Are you obsessed with this watch like me? I am so obsessed with getting the Cartier watches, that's how I even arrived in the Jewelry box to begin with bec. I'm usually reading the LV forum. I'm not that bag obsessed right now though, just got a bag last month, the azur neverfull and I'm now onto the next thing
So for starters I'm going to be buying both Cartier watches used from a second hand market so that I can get two different ones. I plan on spending around 2k for both give or take, that's my budget. Do you want to really laugh...I'm not even getting it until March 2013 but I've been 'looking' since the summer! At first I was entertaining the Must de Cartier 21, in the two tone 28mm, they make that in 34mm also and in all SS. Those go for great prices used but you still have to be careful. Any watch I buy I will hope it has the box and papers. And they change the style a little here and there so you have to look at the crown to see if it's the current style that is being used. I found a beautiful tank francaise and then noticed the crown had a point, even with the box and papers and excellent condition, I want that crown to be rounded on that tank.
So the truth is I actually don't like two tone watches overall, they seem so 80's to me, but I can't bring myself to get an all gold watch, don't like that look even if I could afford it and don't want a watch where the gold plating will wear off, so the Cartier line uses solid 18k in that style watch which appeals to me. The reason I need a two tone watch at all is that I do wear yellow gold jewelry and it bugs me that my watch isn't coordinated with it, I feel like it's fighting it unless I would switch it to my engagement ring hand which is done in white gold. I wear my watch on my right hand like a lefty even though I'm not a lefty.
My friend that I mentioned before thinks I should just get one two tone watch with diamonds for that price and sends me links to vintage Rolex, but I'm just not a Rolex girl. I think I like Cartier watches because Jackie Kennedy Onassis wore the tank. She actually wore it on the black leather band like you mentioned.
I don't know if this will hinder or help you when I mention this celebrity bec. some people are really anti-Kardashians lol, but I've seen Kourtney Kardashian on one of her shows a while back wearing the santos galbee but I can't remember if it was all SS or all gold, I have a feeling it wasn't two tone, my guess was it was gold. I've also seen pics of her in some celebrity thread here wearing the demoiselle in all SS.
So when do you plan on shopping for yours? This could be a support group thread while we wait to buy ours. The reason I have to wait is dh thinks I'm a little spoiled so I get one big present a year, little things like sunglasses and wallets and stuff don't count, but a bag or watch is the big gift. So I'm planning on getting one of the Cartiers one year and then the following year getting the other. Oh the wait!

benchwarmer said:We do have similarities that's pretty funny! I also like my stuff to match. So it sounds like we are thinking along the same lines of our jewelry all being cohesive. I'm with you on not wearing too much at once, otherwise it's just a little over the top. I think it's ok to wear earrings and a necklace up top as long as one of those is a little smaller than the other. I usually do that, wear both. And then on my left hand I wear the same thing always, the engagement ring/wedding band and a tennis bracelet, all in white gold. But I don't wear this if I'm wearing a yellow gold necklace that is all yellow gold, but if it has diamonds/white sapphires in it, I feel like that is white looking so I'll wear my left hand with the diamonds, but if it's an all yellow gold necklace then I just wear a plain yellow gold wedding band. And I don't have a watch for that look lol. But if I'm wearing a chunky gold earring and a pearl necklace, I'll wear the diamonds on my left hand wrist, it's the necklace that dictates how the rest of the body should go lol for myself.
Ok, so I know of another yellow gold face with leather band and it's tdf! Hermes makes an H watch that resells for $1,200, which makes the Cartier seem cheap by comparison. There is also an H watch on a leather band that wraps a bit around the arm, it's cool looking, that I saw for resale for $1,500 again cheaper than the Cartier I'm considering. I think wearing a love bangle with that would look nice even though they are different brands, it looks like you're 'well versed' kwim? lol But you could always pair an H clic clac bracelet with the H watch and that is way less expensive. I'm only thinking in terms of resale prices, but the very reliable and not cheapie resale, like you know you're getting the real deal from these people, they are reliable authentic resllers, like Ann's Fab Finds or LV Authentic, they are the people I would buy the H from or someone on e-bay with a receipt where it all looks legit. The H bracelet could be anywhere from $500-600 and it comes in platinum or gold plated with lots of different widths and colors to choose from. That's just another idea to throw out there if you want just a gold bezel and leather band. And I've looked into replacement leather bands or color variety and they go for about $200 from Ann's, these are all American prices, I don't know how it would translate.
I'm a Scorpio, but my dh is a Virgo. I don't want a leather band bec. I'm so used to wearing the bracelet style watches, it would be a big adjustment, plus I wouldn't want to get it wet, not that I wear my watches in the shower or swimming.
As for the Love bracelet, I just would rather have a tennis bracelet or something more blingy for all the money but they are a classic look. I plan on wearing the Cartier watches with nothing else on that arm. I wear just the tennis bracelet on my left arm and have thought about getting another one to wear next to it but think for my height/frame one is probably enough and my engagement ring is pretty simple, it would be out of balance. I'm just a little bored of the tennis bracelet bec. I got it at 19 from my parents so it doesn't wow me anymore lol. It's 5 carats so it's just perfect bling wise, but it's not a line bracelet of single stones that make up the 5 carats, it's three diamonds that make a heart look, so it's a line bracelet with these three diamonds all around. So if I were to get another bracelet it would also have to be 5 carats so that it's the right balance but I feel I probably would be too bejeweled looking if I did it. I saw years ago a bracelet just like mine with with three diamonds groupings all in a line with a mix of black diamonds and white diamonds in it and I wish I got it then but it was online so I chickened out.
When is your anniversary you're plotting for? We all totally get it here, I think most of us plot our next gifts or three lol. My best friend has a burberry watch btw and it's really pretty. I only have one watch that I'm so tired of but it's really comfortable and has never given me a problem. The movado esperenza with black face in all SS. I've worn it for maybe 7 yrs now and I'm just ready to move on, totally bored of it.
If I knew how to post any pictures I'd put some up of the H watches for you to see. If you check out Ann's Fabulous Finds you'll see the watches I'm talking about. She still has one left, the others I think sold but the pics are still there.
Have a great day!
