Does anyone own the santos de cartier galbee small ladies wrist watch? I am thinking of buying it in ss and would love some feedback on how people find this watch to be. Any cons or pros I should consider about it maybe?

I plan on getting one in the two tone in the small size. Nice to see a fellow santos galbee lover out there. The only con I can tell you is that some people perceive this as a dated look, I know my friend does. She's a Tag girl so she's partial to that I guess. Do you have any other Cartier watches? Do you like any of their other styles and plan on getting any?

I prefer the two tone in this style bec. of the screws, I think it calls for the contrast. In all SS I think the demoiselle looks good. I plan on getting the small size all SS tank francaise also. I'm not sure which I'm going to go for first the SS tank or the two tone santos.

I hope someone chimes in about their santos. I know I've seen the santos two tone galbee on someone who was modeling a bag in the LV forum, I happened to notice it lol.

No I don't have any other cartier watches yet :(
I've wanted this watch for so many years but each time I came close to buying it, I would put the money i saved towards other things like designer bags or shoes lol. I also do love the Ss demoiselle watch. That was the other 1 I was contemplating with. (we must have similar taste in watches). I do like the santos in the 2 tone, it's probably the only watch I have ever liked in 2 tone as I'm not usually a fan of mixing yellow tones and white tones. Another watch I loved was the yg tank americaine (in the leather strap as the yg braclet for that watch will be out of my price rang for this purchase but i decided not on that as I am not sure I love leather watches as much). I think overall your friend might be right that it looks a little dated especially if shes comparing the modern look of a tag or rolex but I love classical (or older style looking pieces with watches & jewelry) and I feel this might be a more classic look especially coz of the iconic screws in the watch.

hiya! Are you obsessed with this watch like me? I am so obsessed with getting the Cartier watches, that's how I even arrived in the Jewelry box to begin with bec. I'm usually reading the LV forum. I'm not that bag obsessed right now though, just got a bag last month, the azur neverfull and I'm now onto the next thing:graucho:

So for starters I'm going to be buying both Cartier watches used from a second hand market so that I can get two different ones. I plan on spending around 2k for both give or take, that's my budget. Do you want to really laugh...I'm not even getting it until March 2013 but I've been 'looking' since the summer! At first I was entertaining the Must de Cartier 21, in the two tone 28mm, they make that in 34mm also and in all SS. Those go for great prices used but you still have to be careful. Any watch I buy I will hope it has the box and papers. And they change the style a little here and there so you have to look at the crown to see if it's the current style that is being used. I found a beautiful tank francaise and then noticed the crown had a point, even with the box and papers and excellent condition, I want that crown to be rounded on that tank.

So the truth is I actually don't like two tone watches overall, they seem so 80's to me, but I can't bring myself to get an all gold watch, don't like that look even if I could afford it and don't want a watch where the gold plating will wear off, so the Cartier line uses solid 18k in that style watch which appeals to me. The reason I need a two tone watch at all is that I do wear yellow gold jewelry and it bugs me that my watch isn't coordinated with it, I feel like it's fighting it unless I would switch it to my engagement ring hand which is done in white gold. I wear my watch on my right hand like a lefty even though I'm not a lefty.:p

My friend that I mentioned before thinks I should just get one two tone watch with diamonds for that price and sends me links to vintage Rolex, but I'm just not a Rolex girl. I think I like Cartier watches because Jackie Kennedy Onassis wore the tank. She actually wore it on the black leather band like you mentioned.

I don't know if this will hinder or help you when I mention this celebrity bec. some people are really anti-Kardashians lol, but I've seen Kourtney Kardashian on one of her shows a while back wearing the santos galbee but I can't remember if it was all SS or all gold, I have a feeling it wasn't two tone, my guess was it was gold. I've also seen pics of her in some celebrity thread here wearing the demoiselle in all SS.

So when do you plan on shopping for yours? This could be a support group thread while we wait to buy ours. The reason I have to wait is dh thinks I'm a little spoiled so I get one big present a year, little things like sunglasses and wallets and stuff don't count, but a bag or watch is the big gift. So I'm planning on getting one of the Cartiers one year and then the following year getting the other. Oh the wait!:sweatdrop:

I just noticed you're from AU, the friend that I keep mentioning is also from AU. That's too funny! I'm in NY, just computer illiterate and don't know how to post any pictures or change anything on my profile lol.

lol omg this is just to funny. As I was reading through this post so many things are similar thoughts and reasons as mine. For starters, I'm not getting my watch til next year (for my wedding anniversary) but I've been back and forth debating this gift I want for it for the last 2 months lmao. It went from yg watch which is out of my budget, but I dont want any other brand but Cartier in my watch. I was then debating no watch but to get the love bangles in yg (which mind u, I had seen on kourtney kardashian lol) but then felt it would be silly to buy them and not even have a nice watch (the best watch I own is a Burberry :( so then I for the same reason as you, have this obsession that my stuff all needs to match (Its a crazy Virgo thing I think lol). So that's why I have been trying to get myself to like the Leather band as I could then afford the yg face. But then I just can't get this watch out of my head as like I mentioned in my previous post, I've been obsessed with it in like forever. So now I have (I think) come to a conclusion that if I got this 1 or the demoiselle in Ss, then I could still wear it with my wg wedding rings & diamond wg earrings and keep it simple as I don't like to much jewllery in 1 outfit....and then I could replace this with a yg t&co bangle I have when I need to keep the look with yg jewllery lol. I know it all sounds so crazy but Im very particular with things I like. I must check this out if I can come across pics of kourtney kardashian wearing 1 of these watches. If I do I'll post a pic. Btw I am from Australia. I'm actually heading over to USA in a Couple months for a vacation. NYC is my favorite place ever. I signed up with this forum for LV stuff and also for Cartier lol

We do have similarities that's pretty funny! I also like my stuff to match. So it sounds like we are thinking along the same lines of our jewelry all being cohesive. I'm with you on not wearing too much at once, otherwise it's just a little over the top. I think it's ok to wear earrings and a necklace up top as long as one of those is a little smaller than the other. I usually do that, wear both. And then on my left hand I wear the same thing always, the engagement ring/wedding band and a tennis bracelet, all in white gold. But I don't wear this if I'm wearing a yellow gold necklace that is all yellow gold, but if it has diamonds/white sapphires in it, I feel like that is white looking so I'll wear my left hand with the diamonds, but if it's an all yellow gold necklace then I just wear a plain yellow gold wedding band. And I don't have a watch for that look lol. But if I'm wearing a chunky gold earring and a pearl necklace, I'll wear the diamonds on my left hand wrist, it's the necklace that dictates how the rest of the body should go lol for myself.

Ok, so I know of another yellow gold face with leather band and it's tdf! Hermes makes an H watch that resells for $1,200, which makes the Cartier seem cheap by comparison. There is also an H watch on a leather band that wraps a bit around the arm, it's cool looking, that I saw for resale for $1,500 again cheaper than the Cartier I'm considering. I think wearing a love bangle with that would look nice even though they are different brands, it looks like you're 'well versed' kwim? lol But you could always pair an H clic clac bracelet with the H watch and that is way less expensive. I'm only thinking in terms of resale prices, but the very reliable and not cheapie resale, like you know you're getting the real deal from these people, they are reliable authentic resllers, like Ann's Fab Finds or LV Authentic, they are the people I would buy the H from or someone on e-bay with a receipt where it all looks legit. The H bracelet could be anywhere from $500-600 and it comes in platinum or gold plated with lots of different widths and colors to choose from. That's just another idea to throw out there if you want just a gold bezel and leather band. And I've looked into replacement leather bands or color variety and they go for about $200 from Ann's, these are all American prices, I don't know how it would translate.

I'm a Scorpio, but my dh is a Virgo. I don't want a leather band bec. I'm so used to wearing the bracelet style watches, it would be a big adjustment, plus I wouldn't want to get it wet, not that I wear my watches in the shower or swimming.

As for the Love bracelet, I just would rather have a tennis bracelet or something more blingy for all the money but they are a classic look. I plan on wearing the Cartier watches with nothing else on that arm. I wear just the tennis bracelet on my left arm and have thought about getting another one to wear next to it but think for my height/frame one is probably enough and my engagement ring is pretty simple, it would be out of balance. I'm just a little bored of the tennis bracelet bec. I got it at 19 from my parents so it doesn't wow me anymore lol. It's 5 carats so it's just perfect bling wise, but it's not a line bracelet of single stones that make up the 5 carats, it's three diamonds that make a heart look, so it's a line bracelet with these three diamonds all around. So if I were to get another bracelet it would also have to be 5 carats so that it's the right balance but I feel I probably would be too bejeweled looking if I did it. I saw years ago a bracelet just like mine with with three diamonds groupings all in a line with a mix of black diamonds and white diamonds in it and I wish I got it then but it was online so I chickened out.

When is your anniversary you're plotting for? We all totally get it here, I think most of us plot our next gifts or three lol. My best friend has a burberry watch btw and it's really pretty. I only have one watch that I'm so tired of but it's really comfortable and has never given me a problem. The movado esperenza with black face in all SS. I've worn it for maybe 7 yrs now and I'm just ready to move on, totally bored of it.

If I knew how to post any pictures I'd put some up of the H watches for you to see. If you check out Ann's Fabulous Finds you'll see the watches I'm talking about. She still has one left, the others I think sold but the pics are still there.

Have a great day!

Lol i know exactly the watch you mean. As I have seen it when I have eying off the cuff I want! Another watch I had wanted was the tank solo with yg face and blk leather straps, but im not 100% sure I love it! The santos galbee I LOVE! lol! So I had considered the hermes enamel cuff in blk with yg as that occasional piece that I can wear on my watch hand! I'm still contemplating it and plan to buy that when I'm on my vacation.
I've heard lots of positive things about movado watches. But I can imagine after 7 years you might want a change. I also love the tennis bracelets. Oh gosh! I just want to buy everything I think lol! My 10 year anniversary Isn't until September next year lol! But being a big purchase for me, I've allowed myself plenty of time to think it through. Plus I my husband said he may purchase 1 item on our vacation as apparently you can claim back taxes at the airport and the other item will have to wait til next year :(
He probably knows I would want something else again if he buys it all at once lol!
Is there any places you can recommend for shopping in NYC? I've been there before but I only went to the main shopping places. I've heard Woodbury outlets and century 21 are great?

I've been to Woodbury Commons once or twice, they do have great outlets there. I don't live so close to it though, I'm in a different part of Long Island. There is a store called Loehmans that has some name brand clothes at decent prices, they're scattered all over the place in Long Island. I live a couple of minutes away from one. But it's more clothing than anything else even though they do have some bags and shoes, but nothing really spectacular. Century 21 is a very fun store, but again I've only been once or twice many years ago. I'm mostly an online shopper for sweaters/tops and shoes, I just know what I like and get it online at a good price. I go to local boutiques in my town for other types of clothes. I wish I had better advice where to shop.

September isn't too far away, it's just a few months off! You're so lucky! My watch buying time is closer to a year away, but my taste hasn't changed in almost a year. I picked out this watch style this past summer I believe, I started looking then, thought I would get it sooner but then went for a bag instead. I felt I really needed more spring options for my bags, I only had an azur speedy for spring and now with the neverfull I can switch off between the two. I still wear my other bags in the spring/summer but I try to wear azur more. There really are no other bags I want, I'm finally ready to go for the watch! A 10 yr. anniversary is very special, I could see why you're giving it a lot of thought, that's the big gift lol. I'm going to be married 12 yrs. this June. My dh is the same like yours, he would know that I would want another gift in Sep. just something not another big thing but something that is exciting lol. I got my present early so I'm not getting anything and I spent a lot of money on shoes and sunglasses last month so I'm really done. No shopping for me, I'm banned. :police: But I'm patient and the way I see it, is that March 2013 is not even a year away so I can just look forward to that. I joke with my dh all the time, I say, everything will be great in a year, and when I say great I mean, I'll have my Cartier watch in a year lol. I make my dh memorize my wish list and quiz him on it, just so he's not surprised when I say, ok time to buy the watch lol.

lol that's a good way to keep them to remember the wish list. I might try it on my husband. Thank you for the lovely advice on shopping. Hopefully we can both have our watches ASAP! It will be Great if you post a pic whenever you get yours and I'll try to do the same! Hopefully there is some more santos galbee watch lovers out there lol

I have a feeling most here go for other Cartier styles. I see a lot of interest in the ballon bleu and some mentions of the tank francaise and roadster, but it seems like most here go for that ballon bleu or a Rolex. The hot Cartier topics here mostly revolve around the Love Bangle and people deciding between the Rolex and Ballon Bleu. For me I waffled a bit here and there whether I should get one blingy diamond watch or two Cartier watches with out bling, and I'm pretty sure I'm going for the two Cartier watches. Definitely please post pics of your santos Cartier when you go for it in Sep. Have a wonderful safe vacation as well!

Yeah I think your right. With cartier I'm not a fan of the balloon bleau style personally. I don't mind the franchise (sorry about my spelling) but I just love the santos galbee so much that I think to myself that everyone must love it as much as I do lol but maybe its not the case. I've noticed the love bangle has so much talk on this forum. It makes me want to hurry up and get 1 of them too. But I personally don't love to much bling on a watch. Even if I had an unlimited amount of money I still wouldn't want a bling watch. (by bling I mean diamonds). But having said that, diamond earrings, rings etc I LOVE! lol just strangely not on watches. I think what makes me love this santos watch so much more is that it's unique looking and the screws are so iconic & it doesn't remind me the style of watches you would probably see on a day to day basis in your more mid-range watch brand names. Rolex i find so many different department stores or small boutiques carry that similar style of the typical round face and metal band that you wouldn't know it's a Rolex unless you were looking at it properly or ofcourse you knew your designer well. but then again i wouldn't just buy a watch for this reason, it would be purely coz I love it but it's something I did think about when I first started to consider the santos. Good luck with your purchases too & hopefully the time will come around sooner than later for both of us!!!

Holy cow!:faint: I just finished reading a thread here about someone who bought this beautiful santos six years ago and has had problems with how the watch keeps time. It runs 10 min. slow for years now even after many visits to Cartier to remedy it. Yikes! That really puts a damper on things for me. And other people were chiming in too, one person had a Cartier Pasha and said the same thing happened. Oh boy I don't know what to do now.

I asked my dh what he thought and he said it's bec. they're mechanical, springs and gears. This sounds so backwards to me to spend so much money on something that you need to rely on to get you places on time and it doesn't work as well as a way cheaper watch would. I have to rethink this. I was considering a bvlgari also and might go back to that one. The other brands that I read had this issue too were Omega and one person said her mother had an issue with the Rolex when she would take it off at night. But most people said that their Rolex watches were more reliable. I'm not considering a Rolex bec. it's just too flashy for my taste, I don't want to deal with people's reactions to it and I'm not even such a fan. Wow, my Cartier watch fantasy might really be coming to an end. :crybaby::cry:

I'm only considering a quartz watch now. I don't want to have to maintain my watch and deal with the potential headache of it running slow or fast or stopping altogether bec. I don't wear it enough. I really liked those two styles but I liked others too when I was first considering what style to get. So now I'm thinking for the two tone I'm going to go with the Baume & Mercier Hampton bec. I like that it has gold numbers on the face and for the all SS the bvlgari bvlgari. The consolation is that the Baume & Mercier is at least a little less than I expected to pay for the Cartier. I'm just not a risk taker and I feel like the Cartier is a risky purchase for me with it's potential issues that are associated with mechanical watches.

What's your opinion on all this? Does any of this scare you away from a Cartier also? So many people on this board go for a Cartier and if you are buying one new it should be fine. I was only considering a pre-owned model so that I could get two watches and also it kills me to pay retail for something I could get for less if all else is equal in terms of it not being scratched up. Anyway, tonight was a real eye opener for me, something I've been planning on and looking forward to has totally changed. I sound like such a drama queen :queen: lol

Wow that's interesting but painful to hear at the same time lol :(
I wonder If they had the automatic version. I think I had mentioned earlier that I first saw & fell in love with this watch quiet a few years ago on someone I know & acouple other People ive known happened to have cartier watches (1 of which also happened to have the santos too!) they all had only positive things to say but theirs were from memory the quartz version (or the other way around maybe). And I know that's why I felt I could justify it. I know Cartier apparently are meant to be really good with their after sales. But then also having said that, I have heard this Before about the time delay on even the most expensive watches from cartier, Rolex etc. I'm not 100% certain if I'm correct when I say this, but I believe it's not so much any specific design of their watches but instead something to do with the movement they use in some designs. I think the quartz is cheaper but battery operated which is technically more reliable. But watches with automatic (I think these movements are the ones I'm thinking of) use the old fashion method where you have to wind down the clock each day to keep the time correct each day yet you pay so much more for that movement (I dont know why it is so) but I'm sure there would be a valid explanation for this. But I agree that you pay so much for these that you would like to hope your getting what you pay for. I don't think this will discourage me to purchase mine but if I kept having problems with it down the track I would definently be letting Cartier know about it. I'm sure whichever brand watch you choose, you will love it. But it's good you shared this info as it still gives something to think about. I might try do some more research just to double check that what I was saying regarding the quartz and automatic is correct
