Saks new refund policy? Anyone notice?

I haven't had any issues with Saks returns. They refund very quickly in my experience. The only company I had an issue like that with was a diamond seller. I bought two sizes of studs trying to decide and they sat on my money for about 2 weeks. I knew they were sitting on it BECAUSE when I take something back to Saks, it instantly hits my card.

This is the new mail-in return policy from Saks. I can't speak to the in person returns as I no longer have a physical store in my area. Saks sent me the email showing they had received my return on 10/8. The response I've received from Saks CS on 2 separate inquiries in this time (once chat and once by phone), is that despite having my return in their possession, they had up to 30 days to process it. I understand things are slow but 30-37 days is a bit overkill. They're holding onto your item and your money for longer than the average billing cycle.
THIS is exactly what enrages me about their policy change.

They have the item in their possession BUT I have to pay off the item on my credit card THEN wait for the refund to my credit card THEN wait for either my credit card to issue me a check or until I charge that amount again to make up the difference.

All the while Saks is earning interest on the money. Nope!!! I refuse to shop there anymore.

I just realized this when I had a return recently. I called twice and it did nothing to speed up my refund.

It’s made me switch all my Saks purchases for the holidays to Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, etc. Saks doesn’t have anything that I can’t get elsewhere. They’re shooting themselves in the foot.
Same!

Ugh I wish I’d seen this thread before placing an order tonight. No wonder their prices were ~$20 less than Nordstrom. I also thought it was strange that they had full priced current season items that are final sale.

Saks tried to scam me out of my refunds and after dozens of emails and failed attempts, I had to report them to the BBB.

They have become a disaster. They’re doing the same to most customers. Read their reviews on Truspilot, Consumer Affairs and the BBB. They are appalling!

After my nightmare ordeal, and reading hundreds of similar horror stories, I will never shop there again, not even in store. Forget it. It’s about principle.

It’s so sad that we’re gonna lose Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman too, now that they have been sold to Saks Global. It’s only a matter of time until we feel the effects of this unfortunate takeover.
It’s the end of an era for sure.

Hello shoppers,

Saks now has a 30 day refund policy, meaning that they can hold your refund up to 30 days after receiving your return. Does anyone else find it really sus? They have had my return since September 23, but now it is October 14 and still no refund!!! They are giving me this excuse that it is the new policy, but come on! Isn't it ridiculous for a luxury retailer to treat its customers like that? The issue, as you can figure out, is that you will inevitably have to pay something to your credit card because it is likely that your credit card cycle will end before the refund processes. For example, right now the only balance on my Saks card is that purchase that I returned. If Saks would have refunded me on time, I would have had zero balance, but now I had to make the minimum payment, and once the refund processes, I will have an overpayment. If Gap manages to process its refunds pretty much by the next day, this just feels wrong and like something is up. I plan to close my Saks card and not use it, as I feel there is something fishy going on here. Anyone else have this feeling?
Saks is currently in a class action lawsuit as a result of negligent return practices. Contact the credit card you bought the item with and let them know Saks is negligent in refunding the item and there is a class action lawsuit filed against them: Your credit card company will then investigate the matter on your behalf and may even issue you a provisional credit.

As I mentioned above Saks has a class action lawsuit filed against them for negligent return policies. It seems as though all retailers are now changing their return policy as well. Nordstrom was recently purchased by El Puerto de Liverpool, a Mexican department store and real estate company and their return policy has changed too. I bought an item from Nordstrom Rack and was told I had a certain date to return it before the return option was forfeited completely. This is unlike Nordstrom which has always had an open return policy. Big shifts in the fashion market and large retail market. When big box stores shut down the bulk of their brick and mortar operations thus forcing all of their shoppers and clientele to go online to buy clothes, without the ability to try things on, they should have actually loosened the return policy for this very reason alone. Instead they made shopping online almost a crime. Shoppers shouldn't be punished for a decision that the retail market made.

Exactly this!!! From furniture to clothing, it’s becoming impossible to try, see, touch anything before buying. So these tightened return policies and sluggish refund policies are predatory!

Same. I discovered the new return policy when I purchased an item in December and it took them over 30 days to refund it. Now I will only be spending $50 there every 6 months (on an item I know I won't return) so I can use my AMEX platinum credit...I'm done doing any other shopping there.

I do not think it is right that a retail establishment holds money past a billing cycle. But, even though department stores seem to be making more money in real estate (as brands lease space), it has always been clear that generous return policies hurt their bottom line.

I do try to remember that shopping on line is a convenience for the consumer, and sometimes I forget that. I also anm old enough to recall when boutiques immediately credited returns back to the original form of payment. Now, many of them simply issue store credit.

Amazon has made returns easy, but it’s not always a good thing for sustainability or cost. I wish that stores would provide accurate measurements or take other steps to minimize the need for returns, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Having said that, I no longer shop in any department store. But, I am fortunate to live in close proximity to many shopping options. When I used to shop at bergdorfs or Saks, I never used the store cc. The points; gift cards; rewards are all designed to increase consumption, and I was always fine with Amex points instead.

We’re on the same page. I’ll spend $50 on something I need for myself or for a gift twice a year. Other than that, they’re dead to me.

Bloomingdale’s is as well. They just took over 30 days to refund on a purchase.

All of this is pushing me to no buy overall. I’m tired of ever lessening quality and ever more predatory policies.

Saks is the worst with their refund policy. I drove 1/2 hour away to return something to the only store in NJ and they were closed because of a power failure. I had to send the garment back and I still have not received my credit in over 1 month. Also, they now only give you free shipping if you spend over $300. In addition, they are taking over NINE months to pay many small vendors. They are horrible to deal with. I refuse to buy from them or sell to them anymore.
