Hello shoppers,

Saks now has a 30 day refund policy, meaning that they can hold your refund up to 30 days after receiving your return. Does anyone else find it really sus? They have had my return since September 23, but now it is October 14 and still no refund!!! They are giving me this excuse that it is the new policy, but come on! Isn't it ridiculous for a luxury retailer to treat its customers like that? The issue, as you can figure out, is that you will inevitably have to pay something to your credit card because it is likely that your credit card cycle will end before the refund processes. For example, right now the only balance on my Saks card is that purchase that I returned. If Saks would have refunded me on time, I would have had zero balance, but now I had to make the minimum payment, and once the refund processes, I will have an overpayment. If Gap manages to process its refunds pretty much by the next day, this just feels wrong and like something is up. I plan to close my Saks card and not use it, as I feel there is something fishy going on here. Anyone else have this feeling?

Really what else is new with several of these high end department stores changing their policies
for refunds!!
I'd call SAKS client services, tell them your return was received since September 23rd & you
expect a prompt refund with a zero balance, no additional credit card fees because SAKS
is holding your refund from reflecting on your account.JMO

Stores started doing this during Covid, I had something similar with Nordstrom last year as well. I had to keep calling repeatedly for my refund because it was weeks since they had gotten my return.
It's ridiculous
Oh no! I never noticed. I have returned stuff to Saks before and never seen this - my previous refunds processed quickly enough. They also told me it was a recent policy. I already emailed the CEO telling him this is bullsh$%.

I'd also write to the CEO of Capital One which holds the credit card for SFA, BG & NM
& let them know that there is no reason not to refund within a reasonable amount of time
& that unnecessary late fees are unacceptable & you are right this is bullsh$%, JMO

It's happened to me twice this summer - I've filed disputes with Saks twice so far. I've been entirely reimbursed for one transaction and am in process for the other. I will no longer be using Saks credit card and I've stopped shopping Saks lately regardless due to their no longer free return shipping. NM, Bergdorfs, Nordstrom and others still offer free return shipping so Saks is last on my list nowadays.

I hear you, I am so pissed also considering avoiding Saks from now on. It sucks as I really like their merch selection, but this kind of "customer service" is really not OK. I will be getting rid of their card for sure.

Yes, I just ran into this recently too. I actually had to contact CS because it was more than 30 days after they had received my return and they still hadn't issued the refund. They gave me an excuse that "for some reason the funds didn't release automatically". I got the refund a week later. I wound up having to pay the balance on my credit card and then wound up with a credit on the card after Saks credited my return.

Oh no! How terrible. Did you pursue this further? I reported them to my state's Attorney General's office and emailed the CEO. Wondering what else we can do, this practice should be downright illegal.

No, I am simply not going to give them my business in the future. I don't have this issue with Nordstrom or Farfetch, which is where I've been shopping more. I hope you are successful in bringing some sanity back to Saks, though!

I just had a similar experience. I sent back an item which was received on 10/8, and after Saks claimed it can take up to 30 days to finalize the return, there could be an additional 7 days to process it. Yes, I just got word that my return has been processed today which is the full 37 days later.

I used to really enjoy shopping at Saks for the selection and points, but this experience has really turned me off.

Can't you call the credit company and show it was returned? Ask them to make a note on your file that you don't owe the money?

For a brief period I sent returns via mail/FedEx/UPS but now only return to the store. I get a credit almost immediately by Saks. I read that all such returns to the dept stores are held by the PO to be picked up by a company that sorts them and forwards to the store. This takes weeks. So refunds are slow. I have found that if I call CS and complain, I get the refund pretty promptly.

This is the new mail-in return policy from Saks. I can't speak to the in person returns as I no longer have a physical store in my area. Saks sent me the email showing they had received my return on 10/8. The response I've received from Saks CS on 2 separate inquiries in this time (once chat and once by phone), is that despite having my return in their possession, they had up to 30 days to process it. I understand things are slow but 30-37 days is a bit overkill. They're holding onto your item and your money for longer than the average billing cycle.
