SA Pressure

I have always wondered if the shrink wrap that is on the box done from factory or done in the back by SA! I used to work for blockbuster videos and we would always shrink wrap products to sell.

Its weird not to see a product you can not see, touch, and feel! There are so many analogies that I can say, but i would never buy something i can not see, touch, and feel! Especially if you want to inspect for any imperfections of the product!
I’ve asked a few SAs at different stores whether they have a shrink wrap machine in the back and have been told “no” by all of them. My own SA actually laughed in my face because it was so ridiculous (and then apologized for being caught off guard). I’ve also had the experience where an SA wanted to be sure I was interested in an item before unwrapping it, which wouldn’t make sense imo if rewrapping it was a simple endeavor.

A shrink wrap machine is not a big machine to store in the back! It is a simple machine that melts the plastic then using a heat gun to shrink the plastic around the box! So hahaha. Their probably told to say “no” just to make the customers feel the illusion that the box was never opened. My SA told me personally to never be pressured to buy anything that i do not like from her as it is my call to purchase the item or not! Guess the other SA feel the need to have status in the store to make sales with all their customers!

black B25. However, my SA knows me so well, he said that he had a very special, even more beautiful green Croc bag he thought would go so well with the latest RTW I had purchased. My daughters said they wanted to see both, but because I only had 1 QB left available to buy this year, he only wanted to unwrap one Box. We were all in the store’s private room when this occurred. For some reason, some people are VERY picky about wanting only QBs with wrapping still on the box. Maybe your SA was reluctant to take the plastic wrapping off the box if you just wanted to look and were not really interested in buying.
Agree! And, cough, your dear SA did a spectacular job by you in both noir and green this year :D

Agree with this too. You should be able to touch and see something and feel a visceral pull before buying.

If some customers only want to buy a shrink wrapped item, then I guess it makes sense, but IMO shrink wrapped anything is not a luxury experience :)

I won’t be surprised when very soon customers start complaining that their item is shrink wrapped as it will mean its an older stock item as the company has now moved to paper bands around the boxes for newly completed items.

Exactly! I've seen boxes shrinkwrapped at H. Not sure why this is even a question :p What do people think happens with returns?

In all my years of buying H (11-12 years at my local US home store), I can't even remember when a bag box was ever brought to me shrink wrapped... even my special orders. I don't know if this is unique to my store, but they (SA and/or SM) always inspect a bag before selling to the client... I've been told that they've had several bad experiences where a bag was imperfect (scratches, pen mark, wrong SO specs, etc), so they learned their lesson and open and inspect before offering to a client. The shrink wrap really doesn't matter to me, I can't imagine how people would be so crazy about this. I've also never felt pressure by my SA to purchase a bag just because she brought it out to show to me, if I don't love it when seeing in person, I don't love it! Too much money to spend on something you're lukewarm about! That being said, if I know with 100% certainty I won't like something, I won't trouble her to take it out from the back and potentially open the shrink wrap.

I’ve been buying Hermes products for years on and off. Anyway, I’ve never ran into this.
I recently had tons of pressure to buy a Kelly that I’ve never seen. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the size and color. The only way I could buy the bag was to agree for my SA to take off the cellophane. I wasn’t going to do that unless I saw the Kelly. Anyway, I refused it because it was ridiculous. I mean how can you buy anything without seeing it? Is this the way Hermes is conducting business right now? Has anyone had this happen to them!?!
Sometimes the boxes of bags shown to me are shrink wrapped, sometimes they aren't. I personally don't mind that it's not.....since I am able to inspect and see it in person before I buy it. Some people mind though. Which I get too..if one is paying 5 or 6 figures (USD) for a bag, wouldn't you love for it to be sealed/shrink wrapped/ be the first to look at it too? And H knows that. Aside from the fact that a lot of people will be willing to commit to buying an H bag even without seeing it in person first. When I get a text though about an offer. The SA says something like a B30 in x color, y hardware, and z leather. So it's not really a surprise for me. But then of course, I come into the store to look, inspect, and pay for it. If you are not comfortable buying something in those terms, don't feel pressured to do so. The price is not a small amount of money so you want to be sure that you like it and be happy as well too.

I also have never had a bag shrink wrapped now that I think about it, but never asked. I shopped long distance for a few years, though, and would receive a photo of the actual bag. I wonder if I wasn’t the first client to see bags, but at 10+ quota bags, I gotta think I was the first client offered at least some of them or just a very lucky second choice. It personally doesn’t matter to me, but I would like to see the actual bag before purchasing.

To me, usually:
(1) SA told me the offer by text or in person including the major specs - model, size, color code - if confirmed to take then either it will be shrink wrapped (indicating I am first one to take the offer) or it is not shrink wrapped (indicating some others have turned down the offer or by the time she gets the box it's already unwrapped for whatever reasons)
(2) SA told me to go down to shop to "see something" - usually I can see the bag in person to decide whether to take (normally for case of non-quota bag).

Hope the above helps.

Its not ideal for you to not buy a bag you haven't seen in person or haven't tried on but the process you've described is quite common. Most SA's will describe the specs of the bag to you and you'll soft-commit before the bag is presented to you. Unveiling the bag (including taking off the cellophane) is part of the quota offer experience and there are people who won't accept a bag if they feel its been shown to other people first. SAs will ask for your wishlist so that they know the bags they get for you are the same bags you want. If your SA was in a rush its likely that there were other SAs clamoring to get the same bag for their clients and your SA only had a limited hold time on the bag.
