I’ve been buying Hermes products for years on and off. Anyway, I’ve never ran into this.
I recently had tons of pressure to buy a Kelly that I’ve never seen. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the size and color. The only way I could buy the bag was to agree for my SA to take off the cellophane. I wasn’t going to do that unless I saw the Kelly. Anyway, I refused it because it was ridiculous. I mean how can you buy anything without seeing it? Is this the way Hermes is conducting business right now? Has anyone had this happen to them!?!

More detail?
I've been offered bags over phone and text but pretty clear ones, like "Noir Birkin 30" or "Constance in Barenia with PHW", where I could make the decision without coming in to the store (and so I don't see the bag til it is sent to me). I've never been told in person that they won't open the box til I say yes....that is very very weird.

Was cellophane still on the boxes when you received the bags?

May I ask where the store is, where this happened? US? Asia? Elswhere?

Was this over the phone? By email or text? Did SA give you the specs? Did he/she not have that info, or what? Trying to grasp this interaction. Cellophane is not the story.

May I offer my perspective because something similar happened but I interpreted the situation completely differently. I was offered several bags that had just arrived and all were still wrapped. My SA told me what he had in stock and I told him I wanted a black B25. However, my SA knows me so well, he said that he had a very special, even more beautiful green Croc bag he thought would go so well with the latest RTW I had purchased. My daughters said they wanted to see both, but because I only had 1 QB left available to buy this year, he only wanted to unwrap one Box. We were all in the store’s private room when this occurred. For some reason, some people are VERY picky about wanting only QBs with wrapping still on the box. Maybe your SA was reluctant to take the plastic wrapping off the box if you just wanted to look and were not really interested in buying.

I hesitated offering my 2 cents because I was only offered 1 QB so far, and it was during Lockdown. My SA face timed me and told me it was a Black Birkin with GHW. It's exactly what I asked for, so she unwrapped it all on face time. I picked it up curbside.
But I hear you, now that stores are open I would much prefer to see a bag in person, before saying yes, even if it is something I asked for exactly.

It was over the phone and I had the specs. I never tried that size Kelly on before, but why should I feel obligated to buy the bag if I’ve never seen it?

Is this a size or specs that are not on your wishlist?
Maybe your SA is only allowed to offer this size/specs of Kelly to you, and hope you commit to buy it over the phone, given they may have other customers on the waitlist and are ready to get it right away in case you don't want? With the very limited inventory nowadays and we are in holiday shopping season, SA may not be able to reserve/secure the bag for you if you don't commit to get it.

I have always wondered if the shrink wrap that is on the box done from factory or done in the back by SA! I used to work for blockbuster videos and we would always shrink wrap products to sell.

Its weird not to see a product you can not see, touch, and feel! There are so many analogies that I can say, but i would never buy something i can not see, touch, and feel! Especially if you want to inspect for any imperfections of the product!
