Of course the industry is promoting rough diamonds, it's far cheaper for them to produce and there's no way for the customer to know if it's overpriced or not compared to polished ones..

Exactly! You can count on it beig overpriced for what you are getting. What's that saying, a fool & their money ---

First it was "Diamonds are Forever". Then it was "Past, Present and Future". Then it was the "Right Hand Ring". Then it was "the Journey". DeBeers always has to come up with something to promote the diamond industry. Imagine. They still have to promote the diamond industry. I'd rather wear a dog bisquit around my neck than a piece of gravel. I think they have insulted our intelligence just a little too much.

Well said Rose!

I am not feeling the love for the "gravel" either, the whole idea with diamonds is the sparkle and fire! When buying a diamond, the industry has educated us to look for cut, carat, color and clarity.. we try to get the best of all worlds for a reasonable price... can you imagine the clarity on this type of stone? It is one big inclusion!!! The diamond industry has taken back everything they ever told us and ironically want us to buy this stuff for the same price or more than a near perfect diamond????!!!

Sorry for rambling.. I just think they have taken it too far with this new marketing strategy!

I saw a rough diamond ring once in In Style for around $250. It was simple and beautiful; the diamond looked more like moonstone and less like the gravel in the above pics. I had been keeping my eye out for something similar. Now that it's a trend and super expensive, I'm no longer interested.

I think they're alright. Maybe other designs might sway my decision. I would definitely choose a polished diamond over it, but if I had a ton of money just screaming to be recklessly spent, I might consider. :)

i've seen rough diamonds in jewelry before and depending on the design they can look gorgeous. some of the bigger houses started using them before de beers, like h.stern.

yes - i remember years ago nicole kidman at the oscars wearing a gorgeous long necklace interspersed with rough diamonds. but they looked more like this than the pix above:
