Rose Gold Looks Yellow

My Atlas bracelet is RG, but looks YG under certain lighting. Next to my other 18K YG pieces it has a slight rose hue, but isn’t super noticeable. Seems like it’s in between a true RG and a YG.

Bumping this to ask: has Tiffany fully phased out Rubedo? That was their proprietary alloy that had some copper mixed in and a smaller percentage of gold than true rose gold/yellow gold. When I search on their website, only sunglasses come up. So what is now listed on their website as rose gold is 18K? I've always thought their rose gold looks more yellow (which I like as I mainly wear yellow gold). Pinker rose gold is pretty too.

Think Rubedo was phased out a few years ago.
I do remember them them selling Rose gold the same time as Rubedo, but yea now it's only Rose gold.

I wonder how Rubedo aged though? I never got any pieces due to the low gold content. Probably still rosy unlike my pieces :annoyed:

I think this is a rose gold issue. Cartiers pieces turn yellowish too and there are a lot of photos of this happening. Almost everyone says that a good cleaning will bring back the rose color. It is due to the gold tarnishing and body chemistry. I know most of us don't see our yellow gold tarnish, but when I use a polishing cloth on my cartier jewelry I always have the black tarnish residue that comes off of my pieces.

Still rosy, otherwise very similar to sterling silver. I have to polish it periodically. Areas that are hard to reach have darkened.

So pretty much the same as what I have to do with their RG, have it polished periodically.

I stopped buying 18kt RG a while ago because of this. These days I stick with 14kt as it seems to stay rosy.

It's more akin to my silver pieces in terms of patina and coloring, just rose in tone. It's hard to describe. I find my 18k pieces yellow instead of going black (though I do get black tarnish on the cloth when I polish them).

I'm with you on sticking to 14k for rose gold though. I'll buy 18k if I love the design, but for custom I opt for 14k. I am keen to explore red gold at 18k to see if stays redder longer, but that's harder to find.
