Hi-
The mini emblem lock was originally purchased from Tiffany at least 10 years ago. It was Rose Gold.
This isn't a piece I wear all that often but when I took it out today, I was surprised at how yellow it looked.
Compared it to my knife edge band (also purchased directly from Tiffany) which is Yellow gold, and the colors look almost identical.

My other RG pieces haven't reached this "level" of yellow (yet), but I'm wondering how common this is?

Do you guys see any difference in the colors?

I can see the difference between the two. Tiffany's rose gold is on the yellow end compared to other brands and I can usually only tell that it's rose when compared directly to yellow like this. It's impossible for the piece to lose its color as it's rose gold all the way through, it's not a coating such as rhodium over white gold.

Maybe "fade" isn't the right word, but something changed. I have their other RG pieces and they're most definitely more of a RG color than this pendant.

I'm not a yellow gold person. The only YG piece I own is the knife edge band pictured above, and I only wore it when we traveled. Would not have bought it if it were always this color.:sad:

@BPC -- if I'm not mistaken, this has come up in other threads and is a "known" thing. Mind you, it wasn't "known" by me until I read about it here! Someone else asked about the rose gold "fading" and was told that yes, this happens with Tiffany RG. I remember writing that I wished I had read about that before I made my Christmas list, because I'd just received (and worn) a Tiffany RG piece before I'd read the thread. Let me see if I can dig it up...

@noellesmommy Thanks for the link. Interesting that it "fades."

@chaerimk Next time I'm in the city I may drop it off. Right now I'm 1.5 hours away from the closest store.

My grandmother had her RG wedding band for at least 50 years and it never faded. Hers wasn't 18kt though, more like 14kt I'm guessing. Maybe the higher copper content kept it rose colored.. dunno.

Yea I think it has something to do with body chemistry reacting to the alloys in rose gold. My rose gold happens to stay very rosy. I have a rose gold T link bracelet that’s 6 years old and it’s very clearly rose gold.

But my Cartier SA and my sister in law have rose gold loves and they both lean to the yellowish side. And it’s not a brand specific thing (I also have a rose gold love bracelet that stays very rosy).

My new Tiffany RG Tag charm is coming today so I'm going to compare it to my other pieces. Since this one will be the newest, it's going to be interesting to see how much the others really faded over the years.

You can really see how much the color "faded" in this pic.
My oldest RG piece and my newest.
I have three other Tiffany RG pendants and they all fall somewhere in the middle of these two.

First pic of my oldest RG pieces (at least 10 years old) and my newest.

Second pic is the Tiffany Atlas Key that's 4 years old, compared to the tag pendant. Color difference is there as well but less so.

My other RG Tiffany pendants are all various shades of pinkish yellow.

Glad I found this threat. Currently trying to decide between a few T&Co. necklaces and I could have sworn that one of them was YG, despite being listed as YG and the seller insisting that it is in fact RG. I knew RG would fade, but but didn't realise it would fade to be almost identical to YG!

The only way I'm actually sure it was RG once is that in the finer details up close, you can see a slight pinkish tint. I don't mind the colour change at all because I wear a lot of YG, but found it so interesting how it had faded SO much! :flowers:

It looks 100% YG here:

Slightly rosy tints here:

Yep, their rose gold fades into yellow. Haven't had that problem with my Cartier pieces.
Every time I want to buy something in RG from Tiff these days, I stop myself because of this.

I mean yeah, they just need a polish to be rosy again; but I don't have the patience to go to Tiffs a few times a year to have it done.

Going to take my necklace in for a polish as soon as it arrives! How long does it take for them to turn back to yellow after a polish? Hoping it won't be like a 6-monthly thing lol.

The rose gold starts to fade within a few months on me, but it takes a couple of years for it to look completely yellow.

If I wanted to upkeep the rosy color, I would need to have it polished every 8-9 months. It's annoying as hell.

Hmm.... I agree that Tiffany rose gold leans very yellow. I have a rose gold interlocking circle bracelet and it always looked like yellow gold since the day I received it. It hasn't gone more yellow, it was just always yellow. When I wear it next to my other yellow gold jewellery it looks the same. And next to rose gold pieces from other brands, you can see the difference... As a rose gold lover, it is unfortunate! Many of us specifically choose rose as an alternative to yellow because it suits our complexion better...
