Fellow TPFers, I need your help.

I have found a Rolex that I love and I want to buy it but I keep telling myself that I should not be buying anything with the economy the way it is.
I already have a lovely watch, so this ROlex is not a need. Truly, I feel like I have the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other.

Well, I'd say buy it now cause the price will only increase. However, if you don't have the money sitting there for it, then don't do it. Times are insecure and I say if you don't have extra $ around, perhaps you should wait. I like when you can pay something out over a year with no interest accumulating. Do you have a way to get that kind of plan? BTW, which Rolex are you considering?

Do you have enough in savings for 6 months of living after you make the purchase? Are you contributing the maximum to 401k? Are you willing to spend a few hundred dollars every few years to get it serviced?

If not, pass on the watch.

I don't have the money right now, so I would have to put the watch on my credit card. But I have some money coming soon so could pay it off in about 3 months.

The watch is a white gold and stainless ladies size Datejust with a white face, black roman numerals, and a jubilee bracelet. I wish I had a picture.

DO NOT BUY.

You don't have the proper savings, you didn't respond about 401k and most importantly, you don't have the money to buy the watch.

If you have to put it on a credit card to pay it off over a period of time because you don't have the money now, you shouldn't be getting it.

Well, I do have over a year's worth of living expenses in a savings account, and I do have a 401K which loses money every day, and I also have a good government pension plan that is not tied to the stock market.

Do NOT buy a watch or anything else you don't need on credit, even if you think you can pay it back in 3 mos. A lot can happen in that time. Just save for the 3 mos and then when you have all the money decide if you really want the watch or not.

Look, you can try and justify why you could buy it now, but like Dreaming Beauty said, and I'll say again, don't buy it with cash you don't have. Save for a few months and if you still want the watch, then buy it when you have the money to back your purchase.

I agree with the rest. Do not buy anything on credit, especially in the current economy. If you really want it, wait for the money to come in before you commit to the purchase. You'll never know what will happen during the 3 months. The watch will always be there.

I totally agree with all the rest, DO NOT BUY on credit. Save up and buy it when, and if, you can pay in cash. We are in a really bad situation with the economy right now and using credit to buy ANYTHING is bad news.

You all have been very helpful. I am going to wait until I get the money in a couple of months, and then buy my watch. Hopefully it will still be there!

 Good decision. And remember if one store doesn't have it, call around to others who have it in stock or can order it. If you find an AD out of state that will ship it to you, you can save money on the sales tax. You already know you like it, so you won't need to try it on.
