i thought about that too getting a gold cartier with leather bracelet for a little change. Thank you for your suggestion, I also think two tones look a little odd, but seeing them in so many friends and instagram influencers I hesitated about my decision.
I don’t know if you would consider it, but Richmont group that owns Cartier, Alange etc., bought watchfinders, a reseller site. There is also Tourneau certified pre owned, and on watch forums, a few recommendations, i think chrono24 is one (but you can easily do a search on authentic sites ) . I only say this bc Cartier doesn’t hold its value as well (esp if without box or papers) and you can get a deal On a two tone Cartier if you wanted to experiment with two tone. Years go, none of us thought to save box or papers, so I personally wouldn’t have a problem with buying something I liked that way, bur of course YMMV. I hope you have fun looking and keep us updated on your thought process! Also, even now, Younger family members who is normally pass stuff down to, sadly don’t seem to care as much about watches and jewelry, so I figure, just buy what you love!

100% - it will be similar to what pocket watches were to us vs. our grandparents!

Not a fan of TT so wouldn’t consider it an upgrade. If the bracelet bothers you that much can you just add a new Jubilee bracelet to the existing watch or have the dimensions changed?

Hi i dont think its possible to change it with jubilee bracelet- do you have any info on that? Or do you mean just sell the original and get the similar watch with jubilee?

Thank you for your suggestion! I’ll check out those sites. I wish all my beloved jewellery and watches will keep their value and i can give it to my son’s daughter ( hahaa what a dream) But i totally agree with you life is too short to make such plans, especially during such a time when we all have to deal with covid… I’ll certainly keep you posted, thank you so much!

well said ;)

I prefer the original personally, the sentimental value for him is a bonus!
thank you!

I like your current watch better than the two-tone - prefer the oyster bracelet too
thank you! its a little surprising how more people likes the oyster i thought its the other way around.

I always preferred the oyster bracelet but once I tried it on it looked really blah on me. The jubilee just seemed to have that extra sparkle. Mine is is Datejust 31, stainless steel, diamond bezel and markers. I am a firm believer that once you try on a watch or a piece of jewelry, you’ll know if it’s right for you regardless of the current trends, styles or fashions.

@caglape, its just jubilee lovers haven’t seen your thread yet. Am sure they will eventually weigh in
Ha! I love the jubilee. I have both and don't think there's a right or a wrong answer. They're both gorgeous and it just totally depends on what you like. Personally I find the jubilee band a little more comfortable and it doesn't show wear as much. And I love how the look is so distinctly Rolex. I also prefer two-tone which gets some mixed reviews around here but I love how I can use it sort of as an anchor piece to then wear whatever other color of jewelry I want.

In this case, I'm team keep the watch you have and get a second one

Your watch is a classic beauty and the 31 mm size is perfect on you. It will be in style for years and years to come. A jubilee bracelet will show fewer scratches but from your photos, your oyster looks really good and when you get the watch back from repair it should look new. But you should own what you love and our tastes and pocketbooks change over time. If you still like yours a lot and it has sentimental value to you as a special gift, then maybe keep it and buy another. Rolex inventory is currently very low in the stores I have visited, so trying on new styles might prove challenging.

On the idea of sentimentality and gifting: I had a two tone Rolex with jubilee bracelet for more than 2 decades. When my child finished grad school, I had the watch serviced so it was perfect, and gave it to her in the original box. She had always loved it and we had offered for her to pick out a new Rolex as her gift. But after trying them on, she said she would pass on a new one as she preferred the size and style I had which they no longer manufacture. So she was surprised and beyond thrilled to get my watch, manufactured the year she was born. But as 880 said in this thread, as a general rule the youngsters don‘t seem to be an overly sentimental bunch. And while my child was happy to have the watch, she‘s pretty uninterested in wearing/owning a lot of my other jewelry - ever. So I wouldn’t hang onto your watch simply to gift it later. I would also point out that engagement rings are very sentimental gifts and yet many upgrade that gift once, twice or more!
