I love the SS! I wouldn't pay for gold if they look the same - and I think that's a lot of watch to have in YG IMHO... but that's just me! I love watches that look more sleek and less bling. The SS and black is a stunning combo!
I like both better with the white face. The white gold does look the same but it is sooo much heavier than stainless! Rolex gold is like a ton of bricks lol
I prefer the ss Daytona (white face); it's classic. My absolute favorite Daytona is with the black band and meteorite face, though. Have you seen it? It's incredible... great on a man or woman. Not for everyday though, which it sounds like is what you're looking for.
FYI, most places have the ss Daytona now... the waitlist went away as the economy worsened. You can get them for list price now, too, no more paying over retail.

In the US, that maybe the case about the waitlist but in the UK and other countries, the wait list is very much around like around 5- 7 years - (the two tones/WG/YG are all available). You can pick up the watch at a grey dealer, but most people prefer buying direct from an AD. I would only buy mine from an AD.

the white gold will have a warmer hue to it where as the SS will be a little more blueish (cooler) hue. Gold is softer, so if you work in a harsh environment where you bang against thing, SS would be better. Gold would be better if you have a less harsh lifestyle.
SS is easier and cheaper to polish, where as when you polish gold, you are actually removing gold from the watch.
I think an elegant woman only wears gold.
A Man can get away with SS but should always have a nice gold watch for more elegant and formal events.

My husband has the SS white face and I love it. I know someone who has the black face and I am not ask keen its still nice. There is still at waiting list in the Uk you would never be able to see one in the window of any shop people have thought they have seen one but it would be the whtie gold def not the SS. What a lovley present.
