Rolex bracelet too long: saw it off?

I had 4 links removed from my Datejust by the Rolex AD, it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes...and you can keep the removed links apart in case you want to resell the watch/give it to someone else later.

No worries, many watch bracelets need sizing to fit right (the term for removing or adding links as necessary to fit the wrist). It takes them just a few minutes to do it. It's important to do it, too, because the wrong fit can actually make the bracelet not perform as well. That's the way that "stretch" happens--too much movement can cause excess friction in the bracelet, so a more snug fit is better on a Jubilee bracelet.

Yes, definitely get those links handed back to you when the jeweler's done.

Pretty!:smile1:

Thanks for all your feedback again. :smile1:

I will definitely go to Rolex and have it done there. I called the jeweller and he said that he really meant to cut the links, as he already adjusted my watch as much as he could and it's still too large for me.

I've never heard of someone cutting links before and I work in the watch industry our office has swiss certified watch makers and they size and repair all brands of watches and they have never cut a watch band before.....I wouldn't trust him with sizing a watch, if watch companies he works with knew he was cutting watch bands they would probably not be happy!!!!

someone who knows how to take links out can basically make the watch band as tiny as possible depending on the case size of the watch face.

this is a new one for me! :thinkin:

you made the right decision to go to rolex to size it!

I don't own a rolex but any jeweler that was going to saw off part of a watch, of any brand, would not be doing the work on that watch.

I agree that taking it to ROLEX directly would be smart, and have the links returned.

No, the jeweler is absolutely right, with the exception of unfortunate description of what he intends to do. If all of the removable links have been removed and the bracelet is too large, the only adjustment that is possible is to remove some of the permanent links. On a Jubilee bracelet like this, it will require pulling the links apart, which will make them unusable. This is not an uncommon adjustment, especially in this case where the OP is trying to size a watch that was originally intended for men's wrist sizes.

I own a Rolex that I bought from a reseller and the bracelet was too big (I have very boney wrists...lol). I had all the paperwork so I just took it to an authorized Rolex dealer in my city and they removed the links for me free of charge and it took about 2 minutes. PLEASE do not let anyone cut any part of your watch. Cut your watch, cut off his hands!!!

Interesting point!

OP, did you already remove the removable links? And it's still loose??

the permanent links on a watch band are the 2 to 3 links on either side that are attached to the watch face, unless rolex is completely different then every other brand out there, there should be no need to touch the 4 to 6 links at the top of the bracelet....unless your wrist is teeeeny tiny circumference! like 1 inch around!

i'm just not convinced this sawing or cutting is necessary....
