This is so helpful! Is it more popular to use donated or your own rib cartilage?
could be wrong but from what I’ve seen online, it’s more popular to use your own cartilage. The reason why rib cartilage is popular is because you don’t want a foreign material, and the body is less likely to reject your own body material(it’s not a high chance of rejecting silicone or donated rib but the rate is higher then your own rib). Using donated rib would count as foreign.

Other then that, using donated would mean you don’t need to recover from your ribs and is usually cheaper. If you’re doing revision, you may have no choice but to use donated.

This is so informative thank you so much! All the clinics give me the choice of using your own or donated and when i ask them whats the difference they say no difference so i was suuuper confused

It also depends on what you want! I just did my rhinoplasty, I had to use silicone for the bridge and rib for the tip, it’s because I wanted a lifted tip and to raise my nose bridge, but I didn’t want a straight nose, I wanted my tip to be round and my bridge to be slightly curved, you can see my photos in my recently post. So the doctor said I wouldn’t be able to use just my ribs or else it would be the straight kind that I didn’t want. The straight nose is pretty popular right now so many people just use their ribs or silicone but usually not both.

Does anyone have experience with donated fascia? Or know of surgeons who specialize in that (aside from Chris kim at First Button). I only want a tiny bit of height added to my bridge so I don’t think a lot of doctors will suggest rib for me and still have some tiny reservations about silicone

I had a very low nose bridge like you too it almost looked carved out so they had to add quite a big piece so they went for silicon implant and so far everything is fine it looks very natural and i dont expect any problems, for smokers it might be though so speak about it with your surgeon

Hi. How was your recovery from rib area? How painful it is? your reply would be very much appreciated 😊
Hi, recovery is good. The pain, I would say, is just 1/10, but if you stretch (as getting up), it would be a 3/10, but that is just for the first 3 days. Other than that, I did not feel anything else.
