this looks very cool indeed. 
and i hate to be completely uncool by asking, but i don't get how that chain goes around the waist?? is it a second crossbody strap that can go behind you? i like the gabrielle quite a bit and this looks like a nice option, but the chains look complicated.. like i'd get trapped in the bag somehow

Omg...this looks great! I've been waiting to see mod shots of this bag. I want the black and beige one but I don't know if it is worth the money.
Lovely purchase, congrats! Is the strap drop just as long as the standard WOC, or do you think it can be made shorter than that?

I cannot - it is too short for me. I can wear it 3 ways: shoulder/waist, 2 chains on one shoulder non-crossbody, and 1 chain on each shoulder. I am 5'7", athletic build, if that helps. The picture my sa sent showed crossbody with both chains on same shoulder but his model must be built quite differently.
I can wear it 3 ways and some may be able to wear it a 4th way with 2 chains on one shoulder crossbody but it is too short for my torso. This is my first gab and I loved experimenting with the mixed metal chains and then mixing up my own jewelry for a very modern look.
Yes the chain strap is detachable! So the bag can be used as just a wallet/clutch.

You are exactly right: it is the second crossbody chain that I just let fall past the shoulder to land across the waist. Easy to get in and out of, even when going to the bathroom while wearing it over a jumpsuit as I did tonight! Bonus that it stays put and can function as a belt bag so I didn't even take it off during dinner at the sushi bar (I can't ever figure out what to do with my bags at the sushi bar anyway).
