During the last 15 years of my work life (getting ready for retirement #2) I acquired a number of LV and Mulberry bags. i have a collection that I love and carry every single day. Retiring for good this summer and I’ll continue wearing the bags I have. I think I won’t be adding anymore as I’ll be on a budget too. I say wear your bag and enjoy it!

You deserve to enjoy some luxury, have a good time carrying the bag!
Usually it is ourselves only who pays so much attention on what we wear/carry.
Other people normally only notice what kind of energy (elegant/classy/traditional/sporty/casual/etc) you put out there.
I have to agree with this! I felt extremely self conscious when I started carrying any sort of recognizable brand, and of course increasingly so depending on the name. Not many people seem to pay attention at all. Actually, I think I may be one of the few people that does notice what bags others have- I saw someone wearing a Delightful MM at the grocery store recently and now I need to have one  judgmental people can be reminded to mind their business. If worried about comments from family and friends, something along the lines of “I worked hard and I deserve this” is enough.

You only live once, enjoy and wear what you love  I try to remind myself this and that if I don’t wear it, I’ll still have spent the money but it will be sitting on a shelf instead of being used.

Hey everyone. I worked for 34 years and have been retired since 2015. I bought a monogram bum bag for my casual lifestyle, but wonder if it is too show-offy to be carrying out in the world. I’m on a fixed income now and feel a bit self-indulgent and self-conscious, but love the bag.

Do whatever makes you happy - you deserve to enjoy using it!! Do not worry about what others think .

Maybe keep in mind, not everyone pays attention to fashion or luxury designers, regardless of what their financial status is. I have family and friends in quite high tax brackets who genuinely don't care (or don't even know) about these kind of things.
( Not me, I am not one of those people :giggle:. But they do exist!! )

Congrats to your retirement. I hope you will have very nice and relaxing time using the bag just because you love it so much.

As everyone has pointed out, you don't need to care what the other people think. Most of my friends and colleagues don't even know what is the brand of the items I use. They just know that I like handbags and shoes. In the past, they asked me what brand and how much but I never tell, just told them my husband gifted them to me. Nowadays, when they see me using a new item, they just smiled and said I am lucky to get a gift.

yes, you are right. I have a friend who is very wealthy (e.g.spending a few thousand dollars per night for a hotel room) But she just use a very old bag because she doesn't care. There's one time, she was invited in the White House and said she should properly get a decent handbag and asked for my opinion. LOL
