Resetting a Solitaire

I agree that paying to replace or fix the stones on the setting and whatnot is a farce. I know most jewelers would do this service for free or charge a minimal amount for each stone. At Tiffany, I think each stone for my band (micropave) is around $100 to replace. Worse part about this is that I knew that when I bought the ring!

You're paying for the NAME at Tiffany's!!!

The prices are what they are because PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO PAY THEM!!!

Same goes for Cartier.

If knowing this, you're still comfortable with it, then go for it.

With Schlumberger, it's definitely about the name, hallmark, legacy. And I believe his pieces increase in value as time goes by because of it.

^I agree. Is your stone inscribed? I know some Tiffany stones are.
Coming from my personal experience of having a setting I wasn't happy with, I think the ring "loses" value just based on you not being happy with it. Who cares how much it's worth, as is, if you don't love it and love wearing it.
The only way my opinion changes on this is if you had plans to upgrade the stone in the future. I would leave a Tiffany ring as is until I had the diamond I wanted forever, and then I wouldn't hesitate to reset it into the setting I wanted.

No, no plans to upgrade the stone- I am happy with that. The inside of the band is inscribed with a serial number- I believe that they also have some sort of inscription on the diamond itself- but mine is not visible (at least to the naked eye).

Your certificate should say CROWN INSCRIPTION T&CO.XXXXXXXXX
If it does, then your diamond has this number etched on your stone. It is not the same number as the rings serial number. This would make me far less worried about seperating the stone from it's setting if you are worried about value. Not that value might be less, but it doesn't sound like you are going to be trying to sell it, and the diamond itself is undeniably Tiffany's, no matter the setting, if it is inscribed.
Since you are happy with the stone though, I say "go for it"! You're lucky your husband is on board and you should have a ring that you love!

Since the Solitaire is from Tiffany & Co, You should send it back to Tiffany & Co if you want to reset it. You paid Premium Price for it, you expect nothing but the best, it is illogical to tamper with it. Just like you buy a Premium Label Bag, for any repair you should send it back to their boutique rather than third party repair store.
