Resellers getting Chanel items first and selling for premium

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

The ones supporting resellers and calling others for reporting their behavior a "witch hunt" may be resellers themselves. We know there are many on TPF.

LOL ok if that makes you feel better than so be it. I have been a member for 15 years here and you can go back through my posts to show i am far from a reseller. Again....the attitude in this thread is just plain ugly.

I’m with you. People here are too bored.

I think the point is valid that resellers are charging ridiculous prices but 26 pages of replies later, I think they’re starting to beat a dead horse here. And as others have mentioned, the attitude is just getting nasty.

I don't personally have a problem with resellers but it seems like the practice nowadays of scooping every inventory in the store, just because you're friends with the SA, is borderline criminal. If anyone remembers me, I had a really bad experience with one particular reseller and she turned out to be a criminal. These Chanel resellers right now who break Chanel's store policies and conditions of sale are those type of people who are skirting the law. Criminals always have to start somewhere. Just because you haven't been caught yet, doesn't mean there's nothing wrong with what you're doing. You're just in denial. There's the law, and there's ethics. People are so hung up on the law and this First Sale Doctrine. Well, technically speaking, you can pretty much do whatever you want unless the law tells you that you can't. That's how the law operates. In this case, you can do whatever you do want with the bag upon purchase but you can't make copies of the bag, set up shop and sell that bag/ their bags ie make a living doing that (because now you're a merchant and not an individual, the individual being the end user).

These cases where Tiffany sued Ebay and Chanel sued TRR, you have to ask why these companies did what they did. When you go to a lawyer with the intent to sue, the first thing they always ask you: what do you exactly what to happen? what reparations do you seek? etc etc. They're not really suing to stop Ebay or TRR to win or stop these businesses (this is so obvious because the type of law firms they hired), but kinda warn the public that they might run into the risk of buying a fake bag/ jewelry from these stores aka tarnishing their reputation. The accusations of TRR selling fakes really hurt their reputation, it was all over social media. TRR hired a top IP litigator as their general counsel suggests that they are going to take these seriously. You don't know how many people I know stopped buying from TRR when the news broke out.

I find it also hard to believe that people are shifting the blame to Chanel and to the people who want these bags. These abusive sellers are the ones that created these problems, not Chanel or the buyers. And honestly, I really like it that people are pushing back on these resellers who abuse the system. You want to make money? Get a real job and stop ripping off people.

I dont think they are beating a dead horse. Instragram is shutting down some of these resellers pages, thanks to reports filed by a lot of people from not just this forum but also from FB and YT. And many resellers are panicking and making posts/hosting Q&As on their Insta accounts. So it is working!

I think people don't just want to beat a dead horse, they want a change. People are so sick and tired of that "I could have bought a bag plus a wallet but was just able to buy a bag with that money" feeling, tired of being scammed. I know people are going to say, "Well, you don't need to buy that bag" but the real question is "Why do I have to buy the bag at that price when I could have bought it from the store?"

I started this thread and I want to say that people here are not too bored. People are just voicing out their opinions as what this forum is here for. Yes some conversations are getting bad and I think it happens when resellers come here to defend themselves in a not so nice way too and members here are frustrated and fed up. But I agree that we shouldn't attack one another personally regardless of who we are.

We want change and this issue cannot continue. And I think it is working. I've seen resellers' (the real bad ones) social media account either being taken down or now they are posting with more transparency. I'd like to know where the bag really came from. Was it purchased at a store by them or was consigned by someone else hence the higher prices - fees on top of price that consignor wants to charge. And I've seen reseller now posting something like close to retail price etc. So this is working.

What a strange thing to say. Just because you saw it in your boutique doesn't mean it's available in mine. I was looking for one for over a year. My sa quit, I don't have a relationship with anyone now. I ended up getting mine from a ps, I do not mind paying over retail to get what I want, no stress.
Not everyone hates paying over retail.

Ummm this is ridiculous. This color (but small size) was available in my local boutique not too long ago.

Well it's the principle of the matter. It's price gouging and unethical. Also, you don't know for 100% certainty you didn't get a fake.

this is what i don't get, beige clair is a classic, why would you need to buy this bag with a mark up? what kind of urgency would explain buying this bag right now, right this second for more than what it retails for? just wait for a couple of weeks/months and buy it from the store.

it is just a bag, it is not water, food, shelter or basic clothing, there is no urgency in buying a $5000+ bag. i just don't get this kind of obsession with buying everything. i love chanel, i love lv, i love buying designer bags and slg and designer shoes but going to such lengths to find a bag and pay that much money... idk...
Maybe their prices are negotiable, like any other consignment store or selling platform (ebay, posh, etc,)? I know consigned luxury merchandise at stores are open to offers so maybe some of these resellers just post an insane amount *hoping* for that price and then take offers?

It feels like the same panic that had people hoarding TP, PT, pasta, rice, hand sanitizer, alcohol etc last year
