That´s true, but for a non professional it´s almost impossible to tell if the aftermarkert diamonds are real. My mother works in the watch industry and she tells me there are not even fake watches out there where you can´t tell that they are fake, unless opened. But even fake diamonds that look so good, even a professional has a hard time telling if they are real. The only thing with after market you have to worry about is not having them disclosed as after market.
I found the legit 'grey market' sellers also care about their reputation so they would not do that.
After market parts & grey market sellers are not the big bad boogie monster Rolex would have you believe.
Yeah it affects Rolex's bottom line. That's what competition does.
Think of all the add ons for the Iphone. Is Apple out there screaming about that? Someone else is making money off of Iphone technology. Big deal. That's how capitalism works.
Some after market diamonds are an even better quality than what Rolex offers.
So with aftermarket set diamonds I would be really really careful. You could pay a lot of money for nothing...and also the whole manufacturer warranty expires. (If t´s a rather new one that still should have warranty.)
But if you buy a watch with original papers, you don´t have to worry about aftermarket parts. At least the visual ones. Because material, movement, color of dial, diamond bezel, markers etc. or not are mentioned in the papers. So I would always recommend buying a luxury watch with papers - especially if it´s a Rolex or a Cartier.
