Hi all!

Aside from Ebay or SignedPieces, do you know of a reliable reseller of Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry? I would love to buy the 20 motif Alhambra necklace, but I am reluctant to pay the full retail if I can avoid it.

Please forgive me if my question has already been addressed on this forum. I did a search but did not find anything.

Also, I know that the VCA clover motif has been around since the 70s, but I know that the necklace was really hot in 2005, so does that mean that it now looks tired as in 4 years late to the party? Would appreciate your opinions. It is a lovely necklace.

Thank you in advance for any tips. Hugs to you!

Hi there!
I'd be really interested in knowing that too! JUST now fell in love with the alhambra line and am really looking at the 10 motif necklace and bracelet.

As for whether it's hot or not - I think it's still a total classic! And all the stars are wearing them right now - Reese, Cameron, and "Lily" on Gossip Girl... I think personally that while they may rise and fall in popularity at times, some things are just classics and never truly go out of style... which is how I can possibly justify $5K for a necklace!! :)

Good luck with your search!!

Hi Cowbelle.

I can't help you with the reseller part of your question, though would recommend you keep tabs on the jewelry auctions at Sotheby's, Christie's, etc. as it's not uncommon for Alhambra pieces to pop up.

As for the long term, I'm in the camp that feels the Alhambra pieces are and will remain true classics. I consider them investment pieces. Especially the more "significant" ones, like 10 & 20 motif necks -- they are pricey enough that not everyone can actually run out and get one on a whim.

I have a couple of pieces that I continue to adore. Am actually adding to the "family" and picking up a YG/turquoise 20-motif neck tomorrow. :yahoo:

Good luck with your hunt -- totally worth it!

Hi-Please post us a pic of your turquoise alhambra necklace-I love the alhambra style:tup:and would love to have one of these necklaces one day myself! I have never seen one in real life just in the glossy mags and on TV celebs

Seriously so jealous! Would love to have the turquoise too but think I will start my collection with the more wearable MOP first. The turquoise was what made m fall in love though!!:heart::heart:

ITA, there's just something about the turquoise, right?!

I've always had a thing for it, but like you, opted to start with a more practical version first. I got the all gold 20-motif about 2 years ago and wear it all the time. Never forgot about the turq though, so now it's time!

GrayCat, thank you for your encouragement. And please post photos of you wearing both of your Alhambra necklaces. Congratulations on owning two of the most beautiful necklaces!

The 20 motif all gold is the necklace that I am looking for on the secondary market. I would love it if you would post a photo of you wearing it.

Hugs to you and everyone else!

Graycat, congrats on your new turquoise necklace! Do you mind my asking if you are buying directly from VC&A or from a department store? VC&A told me that they no longer offer discounts. Sometimes a department store will offer a small discount on a large value item like this necklace. If I don't find one from a reseller I might consider the department store route.

Thanks!

No worries at all, cowbelle. Though I have a VC&A boutique very close by, my local Neiman Marcus is one of the few that carries VC&A and I generally buy my pieces there. Though they can sometimes offer a small discount on some items, they are not allowed to do it for VC&A. The nice things about NM though is that they run different incentives throughout the year that can get you either points that can be redeemed later or gift cards in varying amounts based on your purchase. So while it's not an actual discount off the price, it is at least a nice little perk on the back end... :smile1:

Brilliant advice, Graycat! Thank you.

On which thread will you be posting your necklaces? I don't want to miss you.

In an effort to stay on topic, I will post pics on the VC&A Addiction/Support Group thread...probably tomorrow.

Actually, I posted one of the gold neck there earlier.

Until then...

Graycat, I just saw your gold 20 motif Alhambra necklace in the VCA addiction thread.

Perfection!! You look lovely and slim, and that is my grail necklace.

How often do you wear it? Do you find that it complements most outfits?

I just saw your new turquoise baby in the addictions forum!!! How much more was that one than the MOP? I couldn't believe how the price jumped from the MOP to the turquoise when I was looking at them in Naples, FL... great call about looking at NM though. Our big Canadian jewelry store Birks carries the line - I wonder if they ever have incentives. I've realized I either want the 20 motif one or the 10 plus matching bracelet ... I really don't love "chokers" on me at all - find it uncomfortable to have it too close to my neck - and the salesgirl in Naples suggested buying a bracelet and 10 motif necklace and linking them together... what do you think of that idea??? You seem like the resident VCA expert! :) Thanks!! Jen
