I don't have any experience dealing with MK repairs as I have never had ANY issues in the 20 years I have had my leather MK bags. . I would start by calling them , but your warranty is well past, so it would be quite costly to have MK do it, as you most likely would have to pay for shipping both ways. I think you are better off to go to a shoe repair store or even Tandy's leathers. or a local leather place, and see what they say. Sadly, I hate to tell you, but I would be amazed if that is repairable, and yes, matching the color would be a huge concern. Have you done any kind of search online yet, for someone in your area, that you can take it to? I would start there.
There are a few leather repair shops in my area that I was thinking about taking it to. I've taken coloured bags to this shop before and they've told me that getting the color to match is really difficult.

I called the customer service line but the lady was sooooo unhelpful. So I sent them an email on Sunday, but I'm waiting to hear back from MK customer service. :nogood:

I own four Cindy bags, four Selma's, and three jet set zip top totes (the style that looks like LV Totally) and all are saffiano. I've never had this tear issue and sure hope I don't. I've carried them all often, more than 10-15 times. I keep mine stuffed with original packaging inside dust bags when not using. I don't know if that makes a difference to those of you who have tears or not?

I have a saffiano Tory Burch as well. I must say the quality of my mini Robinson saffiano leather is better than all of my MK saffiano bags listed above. My TB smells like leather and my MKs don't. The feel is different too

I've only dealt with their CS once and they were beyond helpful but of coarse it's luck of the phone call lol.

Definitely try again but yeah, i am betting since your past warranty a shoe repair would be not only less expensive but probably more likely to aid you in some sort of repair.

I only own 1 saffiano bag(by anyone) and it's been good BUT i only use it on occasion... as it's a smaller x-body. My dh hates saffiano leather.. i know strong word but he does, i am neutral i like it's wipe able qualities and it;s easy care but wouldn't want an army of them.

while i do believe the quality of them varies i can't help but wonder because of the nature of them that stress cracking is not unusual, not all will do it but probably quite a few which is disappointing but i guess a trade off for this type.

Good luck, do update.. :smile1:

I wouldn't call saffiano "cheaper" per se. Maybe just MK's. Prada used it years before anyone else did.

Agreed....:smile1:

Safiano refers to a specific type of leather found in Italy which was embossed to give it its famous texture - loved for its resistance to scratches - and coated. Indeed Prada has been using a version of Safiano for years.

Now Safiano refers to many types of leathers in the style of the original / traditional Safiano... but made with cheaper cuts of leather. In fact, you can make Safiano from the bottom part of the skin (likely what MK and other cheaper brands use) and keep the upper part for other types of leathers like the trendy pebbled leather etc...

In the 1990s Louis Vuitton introduced a Men's line called Taiga, which is essentially a version of Safiano leather. I personally dislike that line and I too would prefer canvas over Safiano.

Contributors above are right: Safiano does not necessarily equal quality. There are some beautiful Safiano skins out there - made from top calfskin etc... But there is also some cheap stuff. Hard to tell the difference for the neophyte since it's heavily coated.

In any case, the MK bags in Safiano are very popular and seem to work well as work horse bags thanks to their durability. I hope for all the MK lovers that the company fixes the few problems highlighted by OP.

Thank you. Very informative post......:smile1:

Once MK finds out your warranty has expired, they most likely can't help you. They really are not in the repair business and generally issue a new bag in exchange for a damaged bag that is still under warranty. I highly doubt they do repairs and since your bag is well past warranty, you are wasting time and energy trying to get anything from the Michael Kors Company.

Your best bet is a local shoe repair store or leather smith. Good Luck!
