Removing Hot Stamp Initials

I bought a monogram keepall, which had big initials on its side (on the canvas, not the leather handel). I read from here, that an sales person from Louis Vuitton store had suggested using tape to rip the color off.

So I tried and put duck tape on the letters. First in small area if something goes wrong. And it worked! I had to repeat it few times, but now you can't see it. I think mine was painted, cause there is no deep stamp. There is nothing left and the surface didn't suffer at all! I pressed the tape really good and hard on to the area (I used a ruler to get it everywhere) and then pulled it off with one firm and quick pull (like waxing ;) ). Some glue of the tape got stuck on the bag but I used a piece of duck tape to get it off (get a little piece of tape, then with the glue side quickly tap around the places with glue and you see it disappears :) ).

I am very glad now. My own Louis Vuitton sales person told they do not remove initials although I have heard they do it in some stores.

It sounds like you were successful at removing a mon monogram and not a heat stamp if I am reading your post correctly. If this is so would you please be willing to post a picture with the end result? My friend is divorcing and wants to remove the last initial from her mon mono speedy and just keep the first. This sounds like a fabulous option for her. I tried to find the thread that you said you read how to do it on but I just can not seem to find it. Thank you for helping me!

Yes, it was more like mon monogram, but it only had the initials, no big bold lines or anything like that. I understand now my choise of words may have been a bit misleading. I will have to dig my pictures on computer and I will get back on this with before and after pictures!

No not misleading at all! I just wanted to make sure that that is what you had. It's exactly what I need. I really appreciate your help. I'm wondering if it will look weird if she removes just one initial because it does have the lines. Hmmmm well if you do get the chance I would love to see. I always love watching other TPF members rescue and reuse a lovely LV:D

So here are the pictures. Sorry it took so long, I have been super busy.

So I just took duck tape and carefully pushed it on to the canvas and made sure it is nice and tight. Then I pulled it off like when you wax your legs or something :p Quick firm pull. It needed few pulls and some of the duck tapes glue got stuck on the surface. But it was easy to remove just by tapping with a piece of duck tape quickly on top of the glue. It was really quick operation, but as you can see from the pictures, the color had already faded a little and I think it had been a while since the initials were installed. I think it maybe a little harder thing on newer initials. But there's no harm trying I think. But you have to be carefull when you just want to remove some of it. I didn't have to watch anything so it was easier.

Please tell me if you have more questions or if you didn't understand something. I tried to explain as best as I could :D

Wow!!!!! You did such a great job!! Perfect explanation. I really appreciate it. I will keep you posted. Thx!:D

I recently ruined a bag and cracked the leather trying to "refurbish" the leather handles. I saw on the internet that I should use cadilac leather cleaner and mr clean majic eraser. I will never do that ever again. it cracked the leather and damaged the older leather beyond repair. I took it for an estimate for a possible fix, Louis Vuitton in Costa Mesa suggested replacing the leather completely for 630. for a few hundred more I just get a brand new one; I just hate having this one so beautiful and unusable. Any ideas on fixing it?

I took my unused 9 year old preowned speedy to have the chap with the heat stamp replaced and was told it would only cost £41 and will take up to 6 weeks (as it will be sent to France). Very pleasantly surprised as I got it at a bargain price because of the heat stamp. [emoji3]

Is it worth it to get a hot stamp on an LV? i just bought a never full and am debating about getting it done or not.

It's a very nice touch having your items personalized but I tend to leave my bags alone but hot stamp my SLG's.
Reason being that I tend to bore of my bags and will often sell them to fund new purchases. A hot stamped item tends to lower the resale value. If I were you, I would find a Louis Vuitton Luggage tag and have that heat stamped and then attach it to any bag you choose! ☺️

Does anyone know how to remove a heat stamped initial from a neverfull. I read about scraping it off, tape, etc but would it be possible to just pay to have LV replace the leaf or leather portion that is indented?

Don't hot stamped unless you are 200% sure you will not be selling your bag. It will significantly lower the value of your bag or you might not be able to sell it all.

I've noticed more pre-owned items that have heat stamps on them and have been debating about purchasing one since some them are actually in really great shape. I see the post on here about trying to remove the heat stamp, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried any other options to disguise it instead of removing it?.
