'Reissue 2.55' vs 'Classic flap' in 2013 - which is better?

As a bag lover but not a Chanel regular (Hermès regular) I like the reissue better, but a huge part of that is because I prefer minimal logos on my bags. I will say that both styles of flap bag are awesomely practical and usable, to be honest more than a Birkin or Kelly, which is why I bought a Chanel reissue (grey 226) when I could have purchased a gently pre-loved Kelly. The chain (doubled or single), the multiple pockets - honestly I adore this bag.
If you are looking for pure resale value the classic flap is probably just a touch better than the reissue, but then again there are SO many out there.

Thanks for this. So, say you were going to purchase either bag pre-owned, and they were in good to excellent condition, what price sounds about right? I've seen them range from $2500 to $5000+. I'm not sure what's a reasonable price anymore :(

Minimal logos are a big appeal to me. I purchased a YSL Muse because the logo was there without being there, if you know what I mean! I think that's why I'm leanign more to the true 2005 reissue.

It must be so lovely to own Hermes :D

I have to say there is something romantic about the 2005 reissue with the stamp and all, and the burgundy interior on all colors (I think), but it's a bit harder to find.

I paid $2900 six months ago for my reissue in excellent nearly perfect condition - I won't pay $4900 retail, again (Chanel forum kill me now) I can buy a spectacular 80's or 90's Kelly with shoulder strap for that. However, I am looking for another reissue and i am not seeing that price anymore, it's more like $3500, I suppose because retail keeps going up. I do see vintage flaps for $2500-$3000 in great shape, but anything perfect is no more than 1K less than retail (still a huge savings).

I think you would be really happy with a reissue in a leather and colour you love as long as the price does not give you heart palpitations. If you just keep looking out, you'll find it. Mine sad to say was sold to two deadbeat eBay bidders before I got it, so a "sold" bag is not necessarily gone!

You can own Hermès btw, don't fall for the hype. If you don't want a Birkin, you can buy a glorious Kelly for well under $5K (hellaciously pricey but sounds cheap in these circles!!) and you know it will hold most of its value. But again, I find the Chanel flaps more practical. If I could only have three bags in the world it would be a Birkin, a Kelly, and a reissue flap, with one of the last two small enough to pass in evening.

Good luck! You will find a dream bag I am sure!

Thanks for sharing prices and thoughts. Helpful.

I'm liking the idea of Reissues more and more. I think the Classic Flap M/L comes next.

I've never let myself even dream about owning a Birkin. But just maybe a Kelly could happen one day.

Yes, I think you're right....one must be patient, be prepared to wait for the right bag gem/s to appear (It's a bit like waiting for Mr Right, lol)

Hi, I found a 2005 on yoogiscloset. Not sure if it's the color or size you are looking for. You may want to check it out. I have heard good things about that site but I have no experience with them.

And BTW the other plus on the reissue bags (2005 or not) is the all chain strap. In my opinion it moves/slides easier than the Classic flaps with the leather in the strap. Just my opinion. :)

You don't need a 2005 reissue as the only difference is that extra stitching which you only see when you open the bag. It looks the same otherwise to current reissue bags. Yes, Coco carried jersey bags with the all chain strap but also leather with leather entwined straps. If you search, you can find photos of some of her bags that were part of an exhibit years ago.
