... I also would never have thought the brass would recover that well. I think that every time I've tried to polish Legacy brass it always looks worse! ...

Here is another legacy rehab that I had to polish because the hardware was in bad shape. It's a wristlet 40408.

It came out okay, but maybe I just got lucky? They may have changed the materials used for the hardware during one of the legacy releases?

Thank you so much for this thread! I have this same wallet and love it, but it does get grimy. I've been reluctant to clean it with anything other than baby wipes, but maybe I'll buck up and give it a bath this weekend.

What a difference! Thank you for the detailed explanations --- it's very helpful. Your patience and work on this are admirable --- your wallet looks wonderful!

Thank you! It would have been disappointing if I did all that work (and spent the money!) and it didn't come out, so I am really pleased.

I would never have had the nerve to wash this wallet if it wasn't so filthy. I knew that baby wipes wouldn't be enough but I was very happy that it was okay in the bath.

I figure that if I am not going to use a item because I don't like the way looks, then I should take a chance on cleaning it. Let us know how your wallet comes out. Good luck!

thanks! I resorted to the bleach to try and brighten the dingy grayed white stripes; I was in a reckless mood! I knew that it would be "all or nothing" to get this one cleaned.

The hardware took a lot of effort, I just kept rubbing in the wenol and it finally started to shine. I used Jessi's trick of covering the area around the hardware with Glad Press N Seal and that helped a lot. Below is a close-up of the turnlock plate but the pic is a little fuzzy.

There was already little pilling of the fabric and a small snag on the back of the wallet before I started the rehab - you can see it a bit in the second "Before" picture above. The fabric actually tightened up and looked better after the bath.

One thing I regret, but there was no way to avoid it, there was hot pink thread stitching running through the gold leather but I had to cover it to camouflage the leather damage.

WOW katev, you did an amazing job with this rehab, she's beautiful.

Great job on this wallet Kate....I know only too well the pangs of inadvertent bidding on Ebay, when bored (or upon finding a great deal) , that's probably why I have multiples of some Coach things!!

Thank you! I shouldn't have been surfing on ebay anyway; I have way too much Coach stuff including a big pile of bags waiting for rehab attention!

Beautiful! I had that same wallet and it did get dirty easily. I wish I would have been brave enough to try to clean it up, I ended up selling it on eBay for $40. Great job!

Thanks, I am sure that your wallet was in better shape than this one. I wish that I had bought my wallet for $40 instead of $81!

Great work! I am awaiting a legacy striped wristlet that has some highlighter on it. Not sure how I will remove the mark but enjoyed reading about your rehab!

I have now sprayed my rehabbed wallet with 2 applications of Apple Rain & Stain Garde; I don't know if it will help keep it clean but I figure that it's worth a try.
